Hey Brian, you are not the only odd ball. I like navy stuff too!!! I also did not get Britain's Nelson pieces because of the sculpting. If K&C did vignettes like the gun deck scene at their current level of sculpting and painting, I would get them.

Brian, Steven, I like the naval figures too. If you have a steady hand or if you have a pro-painter pal then try Mountford Miniatures. They produce quite a few artillery pieces. (I managed to get half-way through an elaborate twin Bofors set, which I intend to complete as the evenings get darker).

For those with a general interest in naval history I find that naval.history.net is quite good. (And for those with an interest in WWII there is excellent coverage on the early years of the war, and the role of the Polish and French fleets in the defence of Norway and their facilitation of the British obsession with Narvik) See: http://www.naval-history.net/WW2194004.htm

For those who mentioned the gebirgsjager you can see that Britains plastic Deetail do a repaint of the Afrika Korps as mountain troops. I think Andrea and Pegaso have produced kits but once again you need a steady hand and once again there's no K&C compatibility. As much as I'm reluctant to give john any encouragment to produce wish-lists (not that he needs much) I'd have to say that I think it'd be a mini-series that Andy could find well worth exploring, in the manner of the fall of France one. No one is suggesting a DD or WS size series.

Thanks for the information, I went on their web site and their products are nice but I think I will save my money for K&C. I know this must be hard to hear Andy, you being the owner and all, but I have to put my foot down on this one.... :)

Cheers

Hi Andy in one of your recent messages you said that K & C would soon be having a “creative brain storming” meeting then making some choices about future releases. I’m taking this moment to share with you some thoughts I having been having about what I’ll like to see.

I collect bits and pieces from all your collections, but mainly American Revolution and Napoleonic. My suggest today deals with the future American Revolution figures. In the past you have re-released American figures painted as British and visa vera. Your new British marching infantry would be great repainted as Americas.

I would also very much like to see the same figures re-released with different heads, one set with a grenadier bear cap and one set with the light Infantry leather skull cap. This again would be a fair inexpensive investment on K & C part, but would greatly expand the range of our American Revolution displays.

I must be honest my personal goal is to display a complete British regiment charging across an open field. I have your fusilier figures, but in order to show a complete regiment I need a grenadier and light infantry company from the same regiment doing the same thing charging.

Thank you for all your wonderful figures they give me and a lot of other collector much joy.

I decided that I will be buying Britains Victory 32pdr cannon, 3 piece marines, nelson in uniform 1805 and best of all Nelson scene with Victory Oak limited edition. I usually collect K and C only but I want a navy section for my Napoleonic collections. The sets I mentioned are really nice.

Cheers
Wellington ;)

Dear Andy

For potentially new pieces, I wonder whether some german horse drawn transport might be possible? Used throughout the war!

This would presumably be werhmacht as opposed to SS. Something like the preiser 1/87 kits of a horse drawn 105 artillery peice or cart with supplies or wounded perhaps?

Also the HBG sdkfz 250's are excellent but I am sure K&K could do better - I particularly like the way the inside allows you to stand a figure or two :) in the half track - any thoughts?

Or an Opel Blitz?

For the desert, what about the 'three tonner' - used by both sides as they did the Bengazi gallop up and down the desert?

Re: Note from Andy Horse drawn

I brought this very request up to Andy a couple of years ago at OTSN.
He replied that he had thought of it, however, to do it right would require the cost to the customer to be to high.
Now this was a couple of years ago when K&C was just starting to produce the better figures they do now, as opposed to the earlier DD,s and WS,s.
We think nothing now of paying $200 for example, the upcoming winter tiger, so maybe now it is feasable.

Andy, I just want to say thanks again for meeting with myself and my friend Drew last Thursday at the Chicago show. As you may remember I conduct a lot of business with Bill Moore. I always make it a point every year to hook up with you and I think it's wonderful that you spend the time to show us the new products coming out and actually listening and wanting our opinions about your products. I dought the other companies are doing that. Every quarter I look forward to seeing the new pieces that are coming out and you continue to surprise us with such a wide range of soldiers and vehicles that the other companies can't even come close to matching. Thanks again for meeting with us and I look forward to seeing you next year and to a great 06.

P.S. Think about a Marder 2 or 3 and a British Crusader, or maybe a Jagpanzer IV.

Wandering Andy

Hi Guys,
Just thought I would let everyone know that Andy is currently spending time in the US and will be for several more weeks so if you don't hear from him right away in answer to a post it is only because he doesn't have access to his computer.

Re: VARIOUS POINTS ON CHICAGO AND BEYOND

Greetings Comrades,

I have just returned to the Peoples Republic of China (Hong Kong branch) from my all-too-brief visit to the “Great Satan” and my meetings with countless “Running Dogs of Capitalism” in Chicago and elsewhere. Now read on…

The Chicago Show was terrific, for my money, the best and biggest one yet.

I arrived on Wednesday after a 14 hour flight from Hong Kong. On the same plane were Ken and his girlfriend from “East of India” plus my two friendly rivals, Gerard and Howard of “Frontline”. If that plane had crashed, about half of the new toy soldier business would have been down the proverbial toilet in one fell swoop!

Anyway thanks to the friendly skies of United, we all arrived at O’Hare safe and sound. On a related note and being politically incorrect in the extreme… why is it that virtually every stewardess on United (and most other American airlines) is fast approaching retirement age? I swear that some of them are well over 60 and well past their “sell-by” date.

On the plus side, by companies, it makes middle aged characters like me fell relatively sprightly!

BACK TO THE SHOW

Contrary to some reports I felt the room trading was lively and more doors were open than the last few years.

The Sunday Show attendance was, by my reckoning, at least 50% up over last year and a record.

Our K&C sponsored Show Bags, given away free were a big hit and caused a wee bit of a stir with some of our competitors. TOUGH*****! I say-we did it, they didn’t!

On the Saturday evening before the main event Treefrog and Sierra hosted our little K&C go together. It was great fun and I really loved meeting up with some of our staunchest supporters.

A big thankyou to Shannon, Pete, Mike and Mishka, and all who came along. I hope we can do it next year.

SO WHAT WAS NEW?

Quite a lot really… the Britains takeover was on everyone’s lips and with Richard and Ken of the “new-old” team there. It was good to see them and talk with them about the revitalized company. Obviously it will be a few months before we see the results of their efforts but I knew they will be interesting.

The Shanghai Boys-Figarti were in attendance and their new releases “Iraq War” and their new Stuart Tank showed marked improvements and originality on their previous efforts.

Old Northwest had an outstanding display diorama done by Ken Osen on their table which really was spectacular. Didn’t see many new figures though.

East of India had their new Greek Hoplites on show – very nice too. Somerset with their Lawrence of Arabia sets (not new) always looks great and very original.

MEETING OLD FRIENDS AND NEW ONES

Lots of long, friendly talks with K&C “Diehards” – Louis, Hans, Brad and many many others, too numerous to mention but much appreciated for their support, comments and friendship – CHEERS!

RECENT POSTS

Since I have been traveling I’ve missed the Forum so when I got back to HK last night after kissing Wife and Daughter and distributing presents I settled down in front of my computer screen to see what’s being said…

A) “CURRENT GLUT OF NEW PRODUCTS”

Sometimes a guy just can’t win… some collectors want more…more…more. Others want less…less…less.

K&C, believe it or not, tries to balance these things out and release enough for everybody. WWII fans…Napoleonic enthusiasts… Rev. War collectors etc. We don’t expect everyone to buy everything, that’s impossible – neither do we hold a gun to any collector’s head and shout “buy these sets or we’ll blow your brains all over the sidewalk!”

We produce what we think the majority of our collectors want…when they want it at a price most of them can afford. Pure and simple right?

By the way, the use of the word “GLUT” implies a whole big heap of you know what – I don’t think it’s appropriate or true.

B) “WOLF IN SHEEP’S CLOTHING” STUG

For the benefit of EASY and CEMENT SHOES we are neither going down the “money grab” route or “heavily down the repaint path” with our latest German Self Propelled Gun.

Allow me to enlighten you. Our new Sturmgeschutz III is a brand-new sculpt representing a vehicle disguised by the Germans to (vaguely) resemble a US Tank Destroyer.

WS47 and WS69 were indeed both Sturmgeschutz IV models – substantially different than the III as the vast majority of armour buffs and K&C collectors would readily attest.

Anyone who really knows K&C and me appreciates the passion and the dedication we put into our models and our line.

When has K&C ever gone for the fast buck? Just look at what we invest in upgrading, developing and extending figures vehicles and display pieces.

I rest my case.

Best wishes to one and all.

Andy C.

I kind of feel a bit told off now! Glut was an inappropriate word and incorrectly used. Apologies to Andy. There was nothing personal meant though and i'm sorry it was taken badly. That's the problem with forums, sometimes a viewpoint can be perceived in many different ways, good or bad. I'm a huge fan of K&C and spend a not inconsiderable amount on the product just nowhere near as much as the lucky guys who frequent these boards.

I guess my real issue is that i don't have enough cash to buy everything that i like! Lets face it it's all so good it's like being a kid in a sweetshop.

Anyway I'll definitely think more carefully about my words before posting in the future.

Andy,

I have been singing the praises of your new Stug, while assuming it was a really great repaint of a Stug IV. It being a newly sculpted Stug III just makes it that much better. It was already a "must have" from my perspective, but I couldn't be more thrilled that its a "III". As you know, my favorite ever wood vehicle of yours was that amazing Stug III released in 1997 with all the supplies on the back deck. This new Stug III in U.S. camo looks terrific. Keep up the good work!

As an aside, one of your 1988 brochures just sold for $260 on e-bay. Looks like I'm going to have to stop carrying that red well full of your old brochures to all the shows, or I might get mugged!

Regards,

Louis

I, too like Louis, have been pushing the Stug on this board as well as the others and didn't know that it was a new sculpt. So that it makes a must have. It will be a spectacular series. I frankly think the firing squad is the sleeper in the release although I understand that it has not been universally well received.

With a monentary focus onto the new winter tiger, Andy I just wanted to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. I appreciate you responding to the cries for another winter tiger.

Andy:

In your earlier thread you mentioned of producing either the tank transporter or the tank recovery vehicle for a December release. Is this still on target? It would be nice if you could produce both as there are a lot of great "behind the lines" dioramas that can be made. Still waiting for the other great stuff: German motorcycle w/ side cab and M3 White Lightning Scout Car.

I may drop by your shop in HK this December on my way to the Philippines and New Zealand. Are you on the Kowloon side?

Merry Christmas!

Arnold

Dear Noli-Pili (Arnold)

Perhaps I mixed you up a wee bit. Both the transporter and the recovery vehicles were still at the “discussion stage” not “definites”.

The other items – German motorcycle combo and M3 White Scout Car are on my own 2006 wish list but no actual release dates for either.

Finally, if you do get into HK in December the K&C shop is in Pacific Place (the #1 Shopping Mall) on Hong Kong Island not Kowloon.

Best wishes and …happy collecting!

Andy C.

P.S. Thanks also to BINDER 001 for clarifying the “jerrican” issue – much appreciated!

Re: Note from Andy- re: jerrycans...

Andy, last week my employer threw me out after 34 years of service - need a research assistant for K&C?

Gary

Gary,

That's corporate america for you. I've worked for the same company for 25 years and as you reach the age that I have you wonder when your turn will be next. Hang in there buddy.

Re: Note from Andy --Touch up paint

I was wondering if your figures and vehicles are undercoated with a primer. I noticed when touching up a figure of the Russian traffic woman that the chip on her yellow flag showed no primer or are they primed in a clear coat? Also, it would be nice if there was a supply of small touch-up paints available for figures and vehicles. I know it would require an added expense to produce but would be easier for collector's touching up spots then trying to mix and match colors. Thanks Leadmen

I could use some touch up paint also. It seems weapons get the most chips. I would buy a small touch up kit for my troops. K&C could make one for each era or by country.
