This is an excellent 10 part series on Netflix. The series, which was made in Norway and is in Norwegian, tells the story of the present day occupation of Norway by Russia.

The Norwegian Prime Minister announces that they have found a new way to develop energy (from other than fossil fuels) and announces that they will be curtailing oil production. The EU and Russia object and the EU request the Russians to oversee that Norway return to full oil production. It is a "soft" occupation, almost invisible at first, but starts to become more pronounced. I won't say any more so as not to ruin it.

The series was so realistic -- and seems very realistic -- that the Russians lodged a protest with the film makers.

Well worth watching.

The Sky Arts channel are broadcasting the series in the UK

Hi Brad

We are only up to episode 4, episode 5 is tonight.

There have been some very good series coming out of Scandinavian countries following on from Wallander, have you seen The Bridge

Cheers

Martyn:)

Never saw The Bridge Martyn and unfortunately it's no longer on Netflix. I saw both versions of Wallander, the BBC version and the Swedish one. Incidentally, Yellow Bird, which made Occupied, also made Wallander.

Two Danish series that I liked was Dicte (journalist who tries to help solve cases) and Rita, about a schoolteacher. Both excellent.

Hi Brad

The Bridge had three series, unfortunately I missed the first 2 but enjoyed the third season. Sky Atlantic remade The Bridge season 1 in 2013 and retitled it The Tunnel which I enjoyed.

There is a new Scandinavian series on BBC4 which starts next week, it is titled TRAPPED, looks good

Cheers

Martyn:)

I will have to check that out when it get here, probably in a year :(

In the meantime, I watched another production from Yellow Bird, Head Hunters. Very good movie. Also takes place in Norway.

Oops missed that one, it was on BBC2 in January. Hopefully catch it when it comes on again :salute::

Gents,

OMG DON'T BLINK! This is by far one of the best shows I have seen in a while. I am in the month of August and cannot wait to get to September. I pulled a 5 episode marathon yesterday and am totally hooked. The premise is astounding, the acting is incredible, the idea and writing is phenomenal, the directing is perfect.

This show is amazingly good and I am glad I took the advice of Jazz on this show. I rarely gasp aloud on a TV show and this one got me to gasp aloud and yell "Oh My God No" twice. Or three times...I can't remember. Yes, it's that good! It is on NETFLIX and get to it before it is gone.

My wife is jealous I started a show with out her, but that is what she gets for watching all those crime docs with out me.

All,

Finished the whole ten episodes and I must say that was AN AWESOME SERIES! I highly recommend it to everybody! Please, please watch this show and it will give you a moment of pause to think of what could happen.

Imagine a world where the US is self sufficient on energy...and it goes from there.

Yeah, it's a great series. How did you like the ending John? Sshh, let's not ruin it for others.

I made it through the first episode and less than half of the second. It seriously lacked in credibility, but it made up for it by
impausable alternative fictions of world trends that seem to have suddenly appeared on the TV landscape of late, i.e. The Man in
the High Castle
No attempt was made in set design to be remotely believable. The Guard for the Prime Minister was
a total whimp. Probably would have fared better as a digital Marvel Comic production.

Actual NetFlix viewers rated it a one star. Low as you can get. However, with the liberal reviewers that populate the likes of Rotten Tomatoes,
it fared better. Bolstered no doubt by the basis of the series that Norway's Green Party was in power and was stopping the country's oil
production. When reality is improbable resort to a schizophrenia illusion.

At least it wasn't another apocalyptic zombie or vampire theme trying to eradicate homo sapiens.

Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert!!

I didnt think it was a great series, but I enjoyed enough to watch it all the way through. While the oil storyline is fanciful, its message is different than what it might first appear. There are multiple overtones. The biggest one being the fecklessness of US and Europe policy's of appeasement in halting Russian aggression vis-a-vis Ukraine. Thats a clear parallel in the show. Further, it also questions the viability of "diplomacy and dialogue" at all costs, as the Norwegians continually give ground in order to maintain peace. I also think the show is raising the issue of middle eastern immigrants into Norway with the show's Russian "non invasion". The show suggests many Norwegian's despise the Russian influx but only a few do much about it, even as presumed collaborators are loathed.

Life may indeed imitate art. Recent news was about the US storing military vehicles and such in special caves in Norway in case of Russian aggression. Presumably then, in real life it appears we would NOT act like the total wimps as we were portrayed in Occupied.

BL,

C'mon BL where is the love brother? Bro, give it a chance. It is a great work of political fiction. What if Jack Reacher step in as the BodyGuard? Then would you give a half thumbs up? It's Norway man, they do not have the military strength of the US and they admit it continuously in the series as their achilles heel. Further, the PM does not get the type of protection as a head of state that our US President receives from the US. They are a very, very small country. Though fiction, it is a very plausible scenario for the bullying EU to take advantage of a small country with large resources. Especially, if the US is not involved.

I just read an article today that we are sending F-15's to Finland and the US Marines are Stockpiling equipment in secrete caves in Norway (for future logistics) close to the Russian border. Wow, that is eerily similar plot line in the series if it was written that way. But, in the series the US is energy self sufficient and relies on no one country for energy. Therefore, the US does not poke it's nose in any regional disputes. Yet, another novel idea. Look, I don't feign to all there is to know about Norway, there politics or culture. But, BL there are some twists and turns in this series that would make the late Tom Clancy proud. Yes, it's that good.

Can you just try to get through maybe two episodes and report back to us...please?

Hey Rut,

I too was taken of guard by the "temperature controlled caves"...what? Temperature controlled? As in natural or with units. If units, man those Norwegians got a lot of time on their hands. If natural...wow...sign me up for a hotel stay. They must be some pretty big cave if we are going to "stockpile" equipment, because that could be interpreted a thousand different ways. Like stockpiling MRE's or Tanks? Yeah, I'd like to know how big these caves are. Can you fit planes and helicopters in them? I find these secret caves oh so fascinating.

So long is there is room for a couple of pit BBQ's and a few chords of mesquite we are straight.

You are correct about the preposition of Armor in caves in Norway. Ready for deployment elsewhere. Norway isn't exactly tank country. LOL
Anyway doing their part for NATO. Norway's landmark pledge to contribute to NATO's missile defense system will further complicate confidence-building relations with Russia.

If anyone gets a chance to visit Norway the train trip from Oslo to Bergen is a must. A ride at the top of the World.
