Officer's Mess by John Firth (1 Viewer)

Oh my freakin god!!!! That is without question the best single item I've ever seen in the hobby!!!!^&cool^&cool^&cool^&cool^&cool^&cool
This about expresses my feelings, too. I've seen the many items John Firth has painted that have been posted on this forum and they are all beautiful. This dio is, as Louis said, the best dio I have seen done, period. The atmosphere just radiates from every point of the scene due to the outstanding detail, and Indian Army to boot. I just don't know what else to say about how much I love this dio. Konrad, congratulations on the aquisition of this superb piece. -- Al

Konrad,

I'm curious as to the genesis of this creation (the right words fail me). Was this something you thought of did John or a combination of the two.

Brad

Konrad,
A wonderful combination of great figures in a unique setting.
Have to agree one of the best items I have seen and thanks for the description that came with it.
Regards
Brett

Konrad, your collection just gets better and better! This piece is absolutely beautiful, very much in the style of the old Phoenix dioramas. Just beautiful work, absolutely excellent attention to detail. You forgot to mention one detail, that caugh my eye and is delightful--the cannon firedogs.

Now, if John would just produce an Imperial German officers' Kasino... :D

Congratulations on your latest acquisition!

Prost!

I have three airwar related figures painted by John. I wonder if he would do an airwar related diorama for me? Heck, I would even give John his choice of my Heco warbirds and any of my Heco RAF or RFC buildings to repaint to his standards if he would agree.

Konrad,

This is really something else!!! Congratulations on a fine acquisition. John's work is outstanding to say the least!

My eye was drawn more to the accessories and the Queen's portrait than to the figures themselves. That is not to say that the figures are bad in any way, it's just that the detail in the room in astonishingly great.

Congratulations once again and I hope you are able to enjoy this work of art for many years!

Mark

Gentlemen.
Thank you for all the kind comments.
I appreciate them very much, and so does John.

Hi Brad,

generally any of the projects start out with an idea of mine what I would like to display, i.e. an AZW Gun Team, the Crimean War scene or in this case here, an Officer's Mess.
Once a subject is agreed upon, John usually suggests a variety of options, poses, accessories, etc.
At that point, I always gladly step back :wink2: and tell John to do as he pleases and sees fit. By now, since collecting his works for a few years, I know I could have never improved a thing with any suggestions of my own on the finish of the final product.
Sometimes I get a few "in process" pics, but as tempting as it is, I try to keep my requests for them to a minimum ^&grin, 'cause nothing beats the unwrapping of a package, when you don't know exactly what shows up.

Hi Brad,

you are right, the tiny cannon firedogs stayed somewhat hidden in my coverage.
Most beautiful details, but the excitement sometimes lets you miss a few details ^&grin
Here are two pics of the fireplace, that show those little accessories.

Another feature I forgot to mention.
The crossed lances on the Trophy wall were scratchbuilt by John.
He perfectly well depicted the bamboo structure.

Hi Guys

I usually dont reply to the stuff I make Konrad, but let him do that. But in this occasion, I have to say a big thank you, to all of you for your kind comments, especially the one from Louis:smile2:. I am really pleased you all like it, I really enjoyed making and seeing this one come together.

Kindest Regards John

Two more charming details here.

First the globe, looked on by an officer who's probably wondering if his duty for the queen might take him to another place of the Empire at some point?

The other one is "General Gordon", the mess cat.
It's the little details that do the most for a successful display.

Hi John,
very glad to see you showed up here.
It's your work and your talent that creates these masterpieces within the Toy Soldier world.
So, any and all credit goes solely to you, and may I say, very rightfully deserved {bravo}} :salute::

Here are two pics of the lose accessories only.
The fact that all the accessories and the figures are stand alone pieces, really opens a lot of "play value" for the scene.
Everything can be moved around and set up differently. The officers can be staged in different groups.
A great additional feature compared to a static display where everything is pinned/glued in place.

Hi Konrad

I can tell by your pictures, that Christmas has come early for you{sm4}{sm4}{sm4}, but I have to say I played with it before I finally had to let it go:mad:

Cheers John^&grin

Okay, after all the posting of single items and features, I have to throw in one more photo of the total view, so we all know what we're talking about ^&grin

If anyone is interested to see, what items I have received up to now from John for my "British Empire" collection, please visit my profile.
I have three albums there, that show detailed views of every figure and scene.
The photos of this "Officer's Mess" will be used to start album #4.

Happy Collecting!

Konrad
