Obediah was a right evil git. What is the name of the new book? Yes the books are better. Is that not always the truth? You must give Peter Postlethwaite his do. He gives a great performance as Sgt.Hakeswill. I have all the movies though not all the books. I am going to have a Waterloo night in the near future. It will feature of course the Sharpes version as well as the Rod Steiger version.
My main war video guy has a $5,000 reward out for the original 6 hour relese of Waterloo. Many do not know that we are looking at a chopped up 2 hour hiccup of the whole masterpiece....Michael
To each his own but many of us wouldn't be in this hobby but for K & C. I think they're the best thing out there on the market and there are a lot of people out there (obviously) who want to own the old stuff. That's why the prices are crazy. It's been discussed here before ad infinitum so no need to rehash old ground. I don't really want to own old Britains but do like, although I don't own them, some of the old style glossy soldiers like Trophy and Imperial, which I think are very cool, not to forget Beau Geste, of which I happen to own a couple of sets.
Yes many people on this forum got into the hobby because of K&C. But I think far more people in the hobby got into it because of Britains. That's obvious. I guess because Britains is K&C's main competition, you guys make sure to never give them credit.
I should have only spoken for myself but I also do feel that I speak for newer collectors. I agree with you that probably many others got into this hobby because of Britains because they're the grand old name in the hobby.
As far as K & C giving them credit, to be honest, when I think of K & C's competition, I don't really think about them. I'm not trying to slight Britains but when I think of competition, I think of Honour Bound, Figardi and NMA.
I don't want to turn this into a huge controversy. As you know I like the traditional toy soldier and have several. I don't think there is any reason to quarrel about it
GREAT PRICE!! You did it right!!! The one dealer I go to in Stroudsburg (Pa)- had one of those for the longest time- If memory serves, he wanted like $145 or so for it. I waited too long.
The one thing that is somewhat of a drawback on that tank at the time, was that it seemed like Britains was still doing their figures in glossy and the Mother Male was matte finished so it looked a little funky all put together.
That's a great piece though and could easily be a centerpiece of a collection. I would possibly look at keeping the damaged artillery piece as part of a really cool battlefield diorama
