How did I miss this on the first view! :D That is fantastic, not as they would say in the book "...its a c**k up!"

(I work with pilots in the USAF there are plenty of Moggy like pilots out there)

Flt Officer Cattermole will be on my desk at work. Thank you KC for making Moggy and tipping your hat to A Piece of Cake.

Cheers

I also enjoyed A Piece of Cake, and its sequal, but Moggy Cattermole was far from my favorite character. I know I'm biased, but the Yank was the only one in the squadron with any sense.

Well Chris had some sense initially but was wound a bit too tight by the end. In fact I'd say that only Fanny, Uncle, Skull and, by the end, Pip were really "reasonably" well adjusted. Moggy was of course an amoral provocateur who no one really liked but he was certainly a great addition to the story, as well as being not that unusal in many respects. I know our squadrons generally had a Moggy or two.;)

"Piece of Cake", it was a book about a British Hurricane squadron during the early war years and 1940. As eveyone else has stated, it is excellent short TV series. I have seen the series, but have not read the books.

The book is fantastic. I don't re-read books very often, but I have read this three times. The follow up "A good clean fight" is good but the original is still the best, and what characters! A must read!

I agree. As usual with good books, you will enjoy it whether or not you have seen the series, which I watch a couple of times a year at least. The series caught some flak about the use of Spitfires but that was easily explained by the relative availability of flying aircraft. For that reason, most of the aircraft in the series are actually Mark IXs, with a few Mark Vs and even a Mark XI. Even though the cannon barrels were removed, you can tell by the wing radiators which is which.

The choice of Moggy to release is indeed interesting; yet besides being colorful, he was probably the best fighter pilot of the group. I would still like to see Chris, Fanny, Pip, Flash, Uncle and Skull and maybe even Squadron Leader Rex.
