One of the best pieces at the Chicago Show... (2 Viewers)

Pete,
I don't think talking about other variations is going to change anything on this model.Myself I'd rather have one with tricornes than grenadier caps or French troops but don't get me wrong this is a beautiful piece of art and I can't afford to get one until spring but if any are available I will have one unless it's on ebay at 3x the original price.{eek3}Here's a couple of nice models.

Mark...

I have seen pictures of both of those before and never get tired of looking at them...

I think the one with the French troops is from Europe,Belgium maybe.I heard it was for sale but no one had bought it but that was last year when I heard that. The top pic is sets from La Meridiana. The problem with this one you have to buy all the figures,I think the heads are a separate set,the canoe and have them all painted. It would cost quite a bit to have this done.Anyway I hope to see John's barge painted soon.Mike you have influence with John, make it happen.:)^&grin

I sent John an email...
and he was nice enough to field a few questions...

the Grenadiers in the barge will be the 15th Regiment of Foot...

it is best suited for Plains of Abraham...

he doesn't want to be pinned down on pricing or due date as of yet...

but he did enclose some pictures for close-up viewing and to show the assembly process...

more pics...

John also mentioned that he is considering some add-ons...

such as an Indian scout or a Ranger manning the gun on the bow...

and a standard bearer figure with a furled flag...

Like the idea of a gunner and a flag ensign. Also the clever construction that (apparently) will allow the boat to lay flat on a water dio or sit complete on the stand. This piece is going to become a celebrated centerpiece for those who collect it. -- Al

That shot showing that it can be converted to a waterline version has me sold.

Thanks for sharing all of those other pictures and John's comments.

Another great product from JJD......for the sake of versatility I would like to see the boat sold separately.
It can be used for the AWI where the British ferried their troops to the American shores.....Battle of Brooklyn(Long Island), White Plains, Charleston and Philadelphia campaigns.
Maybe this could be an entry piece for John if he ever decides to cover the AWI.

An ensign would be a great piece, no doubt, but my rivet Nazi instincts are kicking in and asking whether it's appropriate, if this represents a grenadier company. They didn't carry colors, if I'm not mistaken.

Prost!

Well, I guess we can allow John to stretch his artistic talent and make the figure. Washington never Crossed the Delaware standing, but the painting is cool. An ensign with a rolled flag will look very cool.

Yellow Facings on the 15th. Not too dissimilar from the 28th and 44th.

I am ever so pleased with my prediction concerning the regiment that John would utilize for this piece. I was correct in predicting that my prediction would be wrong, yet again !!!

Refraining from asking for a 30-ton sloop mounted with two 6-pounders, one 7-inch mortar and 8-swivel guns (Earl of Loudoun, Launched Lake George, August 23 1756). The British also had two smaller 20-ton sloops armed with swivel cannon that patrolled Lake George as a squadron of three ships.

Hi,
I think it's a masterstroke on John's behalf to manufacture the boat with either waterline or stand options.

Pete

I think John told me that the barge would become available in December or January...

so maybe in this month's releases...
