Hi Guys,

Here's a modification I've made to AK037. I've been wanting to give it a try ever since the Opel Blitz was released last year.

The van body is completely scratch built from polystyrene. The body actually slips over the existing cargo box, thereby preserving the integrity (and value) of the original. I was really hesitant about cutting into an $80 piece not knowing how it was going to turn out.

I had to make some concessions with scale in order to make it work, but I think it still looks proportional.

I feel it turned out reasonably well, although the hardest part for me was the painting. I found it difficult matching the tone of the desert yellow (it's still a little dark). The Red crosses were masked and painted. I weathered it with pencil lead and pastels. I still may paint the rest of the truck to match ( the 1/35th modeler in me is not 100% happy with the color tone difference)

I hope you enjoy the photos,

Wayne

Wow thats awesome! I was planning on doing a communications truck but I did cut into the bed of the truck. Right now its on the workbench since I'm working on other stuff.

Welcome to the forum Wayne,

I think you did an excellent job on your conversion. :)

Welcome aboard Wayne . . . excellent conversion! If you mass-produced and sold the top, I would buy another Opel Blitz to accomodate it!!

Hi Guys,

A big congratulations to Wayne on his superb Ambulance conversion of our Opel Blitz. It always gives me great pleasure and delight to see how talented and imaginative K&C collectors can be.

At the same time it’s great to be able to produce vehicles and tanks that lend themselves to such conversions. Well done again Wayne… I look forward to seeing more of your work.

With best wishes,
Andy C.

Superb work Wayne and welcome to the forum.

well don !!! great work !!! and greetings from the netherlands .

richard;)

Wow.
Great work! I only hope it would not put Andy off releasing something similar in future.
I have found my self drifting between ranges and time periods of late. This means that with each set of retirements I have a tinge of regret for not getting this or that great model.

I think the answer is with an interest in all things medical to collect figures vehicles etc that have a medical slant. The Austine K2 or a model such as this has almost convinced me this is the way to go (until next dispatches that is

That is a very clever idea and very well executed in the making, the more I look at it the more I think if you didn’t already know you could be excused for thinking it was a new K&C release.

Btw welcome to the forum.

Regards

Jeff
