Yes - it is here - Finally !! :D

Opening Day for the Washington Nationals in our new Washington Nationals Park. BASEBALL BEGINS !! :)

I went to the Ribbon Cutting and Exhibition Game against the Orioles last night - it was cold. Unfortunately, tonight is suppose to be colder - 38 degrees. :(

You can watch the Nationals Opening Day - Nats vs. Braves - (actually it is a night game 8pm) on ESPN Tonight !!

The winter is coming to a close - BASEBALL IS BACK !

Hey Ron,

What did you think of the stadium? I was thinking about going up there this year. I was actually trying to find some pictures of the stadium yesterday but didn't have any luck.

Thanks
Ronnie

Ronnie

Its a great "Field of Dreams" - It will remind you of the Phillies Stadium - very similar in many ways. Very nice and good seating in the lower seats close to the field.

Just back tonight from OUR OPENING DAY ! :D Ryan Zimmerman hit a Homerun in the 10th Inning to Win the Game !!

Great time to be had by all.

NATIONALS ARE ON A WINNING STREAK ! ;)

Hhhooorraayy!!!!!!! I Am With You Capitalron, Glad To See Baseball Back!! I Gfrew Up In Baltimore As A Child When The Orioles Won Everything, We May Struugle Again This Year But Were A Young Team Now And The Future Is Bright, And Capitalron Don't Forget The Ravens Play Those Redskins In In A Regular Season Game This Year!!!!!!!can't Wait, ray And The D Will Be Ready...sammy

That's awesome that you are an Orioles fan Sammy, they had some incredible teams in the 70's and some of the best ballplayers to ever play the game, good for you.

I'll never forget how they got screwed vs the Yankees in the ALCS several years ago when that kid reached over the stands and caught the ball, Ray Charles could have seen that and the right field umpire blew the call, costing the Orioles the series. And Yankee fans made the kid into some kind of hero, what a pathetic example of sportsmanship, what else would you expect from Yankee fans.

Ravens fan too; I wish they had beaten the Patriots so the pressure of going undefeated would have been off and they could have waxed the Giants like they should have.......

Orioles, they're the team sponsored by a cookie manufacturer aren't they  :D

Wow, George. I am a little shocked. I am a lifelong Yankees fan, and have been to several Yankees-Redsox regular season and playoff games over the years, and I have never once seen a redsox fan beat up or doused in beer at Yankee stadium. Something I can't say about my experiences as a Yankee fan in Fenway. All in all I would have to say this seems a little like the pot calling the kettle black. Plus, as I recall, when your team got past mine a few years back, I congratulated you. And this year, when my Giants won the Superbowl, I posted that the accomplishments of the Patriots in starting the season 18-0 and having a perfect regular season should not be overlooked, and that they were one of the great teams even without winning the title. So paint Yankees and Giants fans with a little bit narrower brush please. Ah, I am just ribbing you George, you can bust on Yankees fans and I'll still consider you a good friend, just a misguided one!:p:D

Louis,
I thought you were joking, especially the part about never seeing a red sox fan doused in beer or beat up in the Bronx. I always viewed the Yankees with respect, kind of like the older brother of mine who I could never beat in horse or anything for that matter because no matter how I tried, he was just better than me.

The worm finally turned in 2004, the greatest closer of all time couldn't get it done in game 4 and it was all downhill from there. Mo is a class act; at the season opener in 2005, when Mo was introduced to the Fenway faithful, he got a rousing cheer, one of the loudest of the day. And he smiled from ear to ear and tipped his cap to the fans. Yep, Mo is a class act, he and Jeter are both class acts. Mr Torre is too; the Dodgers are now my second favorite team, I wish Joe nothing but the best, he always carried himself with dignity and class as the Yankee skipper.

So how do you feel about them tearing down the house that Ruth built Louis, leaving only Wrigley and Fenway as the two oldest ballparks. A sad thing to see, I remember when the Giants used to play their home games there; as a kid, we got the "pleasure" of seeing all the Giants games here in Boston, Fran Tarkenton, Spider Lockhart, etc, etc...........

I read somewhere this weekend that the new owner of the Cubs was thinking of selling the naming right to Wrigley; that would be sacrilege.

Also, Harvey Araton in today's N.Y. Times had a scathing article about the new Yankee Stadium because they took away Macombs Park to make the new stadium and people in the community will never have those amenities back. A real shame. He suggested that the Yankees could have done what they did in 74-75: play in Shea Stadium. Everybody would have benefited. He mostly blames the City, not the Yankees, as the City owns the Stadium.

If any city is deserving of a baseball team it is DC. That was a real crime when the Senators left. Almost as bad as the Rams leaving LA without a pro football team. With that said I read that the new DC stadium will cost tax payers $600+ million dollars! Oddly enough another news story indicated the HS graduation rate in major US cities is now below 50% - unbelievable. I'm not saying the $600 million would have changed that much given the incompetence of the DC government but it does give some pause. Not exactly sure how or why multi-billion dollar businesses like MLB and the NFL get these handouts. I know the people in Arizona were furious about the stadium built for the Cardinals. No one seemed to want it except the politicians.

Combat

$600 Million - Just another Day in Iraq ! ;)

The New Stadium is a good thing for DC - it has brought more jobs to the people of that area and has added a new sports facility to the nation's capitol.

All in all - a good thing.

As for the School System - you know I am a Republican living behind enemy lines here  - but, I will give Mayor Fenty credit - he fired a bunch of teachers who were not teaching / nor helping students of DC. At least he is trying - but, this local government has a long way to go.

Well, we shall see if the might Nationals will remain the NL East Leader today - so nice to be on a winning streak - no matter how long/short it is....:D

Brad

We should get together and go to the Nationals vs. Mets game when in comes up in NY.

Ron

Ron, I would love that. I think that would be fantastic. Did you know that I was at the last game the Senators played in RFK in 1969 before they moved to Texas. An amazing story.

The place was packed with tons of "I hate Bob Short" signs and a lot worse. He was the owner of the team. Well, the Yankees went ahead and in the bottom of the seventh, the Senators grabbed a lead. Yankees came up, three outs done. Then, in the bottom of the 8th, a few fans jumped onto the field. They were hustled off and the PA announcer said that if this happened again, the game would be forfeited.

Top of the ninth came and it was like a jail break. Everybody ran into the field: people took the bases, lights from the scoreboard, grass, breaking off seats, you name it. It was unbelievable. As if that wasn't bad enough, the Skins were going to play there that weekend. That's one game I will never forget.

Brad

That would had been a game to watch

Well - if walking a run in Philly to lose in the 10th wasn't bad enough - now we lose by 1 run to the Cards tonight.

Nats (3-2) :(

The METS are now the NL East Leaders

No pitching...No pitching....
