The road to Valkenswaard – September 17, 1944 shortly after H-hour. XXX Corp jumps off at 1435 with the Irish Guards in the vanguard position. The lead tanks crossed the Belgian-Dutch border within the hour. Waiting in ambush are Fallschirmjagers with panzerfausts from Kampfgruppe Walther. After letting the lead Irish Guards squadron pass their position, they opened up on the column. Soon nine tanks were disabled, but the Guards response was just as swift and lethal. -- Alex

The Irish Guards and other units continue their advance after the ambush and the disabled tanks have been pushed off the side of the road. An Irish Guards Firefly drives pass a Fallschirmjager casualty in the ditch and a smoldering tank on the opposite side of the road. The Fallshirmjagers would continue to harass the column throughout the day on the single road come to be known as “Hell’s Highway”. --Alex

And so the all out dash down a narrow highway is underway with XXX Corp. Wonderful scene. Robin.

Neat diorama and telling of the story. Hopefully there is more to come !?

Excellent diorama. Thanks for sharing your work. Now you just need a regiment of 25-pounders to give those Jerries a bad day like in the movie!

Glad you like it. I have over ten story/diorama sets planned for the Market Garden series leading up to the 75th anniversary next year. I'm putting the finishing touches on the third and fourth sets and about to begin on the fifth. -- Alex
