Opinions needed on German T34 and Normandy Kubelwagen (1 Viewer)

Dave, which model of T34 was it that resembled Mickey mouse when both hatches were open?.It really annoyed Stalin!.

Rob

Dave,

If you go the Treefrog site, you'll find a photo of the Berlin one, which is called the "T 34/85."

Well done Rob!

Is the T34 in the Imperial War Museum the 85 version? I think it looks like my K&C one from memory.

As point out in Wikipedia, there was no significant difference between the variants:

This is what I posted back on 6 June, "I just opened the box and I am very impressed. The wheels rotate, the windscreen is very realistic, all the accessories are very well done and the figures are some of the best K&C has done. I also got the captured T-34. Man is that one a great piece too."

I did put the two T-34's together and I too found that the RA13 was a bit larger than the WS98. The differences have been discussed at length by others on this thread (different model, etc.), however the difference I noticed between the two was in craftsmanship and detailing. While the RA13 is a very nice model, the WS98 has had much more attention paid to sculpting (detailing) and painting.

If I had the choice of buying them again (the Kubelwagen and the T34) I would wholeheartedly do it without reservation. I would get the RA13 again too. Great stuff from K&C and I think well worth the two children I have had to sell into slavery in order to keep my habit going  ;)

I think I'm sold on this now. My purchase will be the German T34 and the Normandy Kubelwagen. Should look good together.

Hi Rob, guys,

I am pretty sure the model of the T34 that so annoyed Stalin was the early T34 A- C and some D versions after that they began to fit cupolas to the TC side similar to the German ones. It is funny to note that you dont often see them in pictures with both hatches open, probably due to Stalins ire.

Pierre is right the biggest difference externally was the Turret size and of course gun size bigger gun = bigger breach and ammunition. There were some other modifications that we dont need to worry much about. Still good thread pointing out the differences in the two models.

I guess I missed the Berlin one on the site I found the other I will look again and see if I can find it.

All the best

Dave

Thanks Dave, as you said i've not seen many pics of the 'Mickey' T34 but i did see it in a series which i think was called 'killer Tanks'.Thanks for your info, this is indeed a very intersting thread.

Rob

Just remember the T34 is only for the Eastern front. The Germans did not use captured T34's in Normandy.

Yep, that was the killer for me. Since I don't currently collect eastern front, I ordered the set and did a deal with NMrocks to sell him the tank-minus the crew. As soon as I opened the set, I regretted my decision-the T34 is indeed VERY sweet. But again, they were only used in the east, so what the heck.
The Kubel is also an excellent piece.

WS098 appears to been modified by the Germans and fitted with Pz.Kpfw III commanders cupola.

Yes the camo on the new version does look like it may be at home in Normandy doesn't it.As if facing Tigers and Panthers wasn't enough the last thing the Allies needed was T34's too!.I think the fact that this version is different from the Berlin version makes it even more attractive. Its great to have different versions of one tank, gives real depth to your collection.

Rob

Yep Rob, I can see it being worthwhile displaying the two together. At the moment my Berlin T34 is boxed in the loft but this would seem like a good opportunity to bring it out.
What do you think of the extra tank crew Rob? Again at first i wasnt that fussed by them but the more i look at them the more I like them.

Morning James, yes i agree.I really want the extra crew set.For me i think they work just as well with other suppliers Tanks as well as K&C.I think the chap with the Jerry can would look great with NMA's Sturmtiger for instance.I am often looking to swap figures around and see how they work.(i put the tiny driver from NMA's lynx into the drivers position on HB's winter Panther and it worked really well).I think the figures in this set have been well thought out, really like the chap with the tool box.I still hope Andy may produce some half body figures,i think they would sell like hot cakes.

You know i was going to go mad at the show and buy four or five things. But i hear the whoosh of opening canopys approaching and i'm trying to keep some money in reserve!

Rob

I was thinking much the same thing about different companies vehicles.
I thought the tool box guy and the other kneeling figure might look good on the Figarti Tiger as you can open the hatches that cover the engine compartment. I know some might dispute the scale but there really is hardly any difference between the K&C and Figarti version.

Yep not long to go now till the Arnhem releases and I reckon it's going to be an expensive one for us!
