This is a heads up in the for what it's worth department. With the caveat;

I have no connection at all, to the seller of the listing below.

On ebay I recently purchased a metal diecast "1/32 scale" brown, black fendered, 1937 Ford V8 pick up for use in what will hopefully down the road be a WW2 diorama. Going by the seller's given dimensions and doing a little research on about how long a real 1937 Ford P/U should be, I concluded the scale of this diecast is more like 1/31. I may be wrong.

But, I have some 1/32 54mm figures. Actually measured, one (which is not even postured standing "straight up") is actually (from head to boot sole) more like 58mm and another about 56+mm. I figured they might work and took a chance for a total including shipping of well under $20 for the truck.

And yes, they are very close to a correct scale correlation. So, with some repainting, detailing and weathering I think this truck is going to work for it's intended role.

I have been rechecking ebay for similar items; the following is a 1918 Ford Model T ambulance that may work for someone in a 1/32 or 1/30 WW1 dio...

For other vehicles go to the advanced search option on ebay, search titles only, in diecast & toy vehicles for; national museum. If you are in the U.S. you should get 400 plus items show up in the results. The significant cons I see to these diecasts are;

a) Scaling might be on the small size for 1/30 figures (which may be offset by placement and mix/match suitable figures

b) Fitting gaps of opening doors, hoods etc are on the large size. This may be deemed minor by some, and placement, positioning might compensate. If repainting, joining edges could be built up with epoxy filler etc and filed/sanded for tighter fits.

c) For me, frustrating to find that there are not any diecast mid-to-late 1930s european cars (or decent motorcycles) in 1/32 scale. There are hundreds in 1/87, 1/64, 1/50, 1/43, 1/38, 1/34(!) ... then nothing.... 1/24, and 1/18. I saw a a few 1/30 motorcycles but was not impressed with detailing at all.

On the plus side of the U.S. (and a few British marques) I found;

a) General detail very good on average.

b) Generally very cheap to buy.

Finally, again ... Your mileage may vary.
