How about all of you that will be attending OTSN for the first time start listing your names so us "veterens of the show" can locate you.

If there wasn't the small matter of the Atlantic between me and the show I would really like to go, I have seen lots of peoples pictures on the forum of the event and it looks like toy soldier heaven!
Would especially like to go to a Ken Osen workshop and have a beer with Bill Sager who I've been buying figures from for a good couple of years now! ;):)

Looks like the plan is to drive from Toronto through Port Huron to Chigago. Would drive on Thursday to arrive Thursday late afternoon. Not looking forward to the 9+ hour drive, but the cheapest flights and fares to and from airports add $500 over the cost of driving.

The main reason I am going is to meet a few people and attend the Figarti lunch and K&C dinner. I do not know how long I will stay Saturday/Sunday. Probably will stay in the same hotel as the show.

I think Gary is the dean of attendees (to my knowledge). From Gary I learned that Sunday isn't really necessary if you've come for the room trading an make your reservations for next year when you check out.

..... I learned that Sunday isn't really necessary ......

Other than helping support the actual show and to see the dealers that only set up on the day of the show... I find it's worthwhile...

Jim

Well, I don't live in the area and can't stay through Sunday and by the time Sunday arrives, I've seen most of what there is to see. In past years, I've bought the early bird, walked around the show for a couple of hours and then I head to the airport. That's about as much time I can stay without facing an angry family.

Understood.. I was just saying that IF you had the time - I think it's a great show in and of itself... As you say - people have travel plans and such... I have the luxury of living near by... Point well taken...

Jim

I live close by and have only gone to the Sunday show once, after 4 days of going through the rooms I think I've seen all I need to see, besides by then I'm broke.

Oh, yes, I misunderstood you. It's a great show in and of itself (the greatest not counting London, which I haven't been to), forget the room trading. At the Show I've gotten some great stuff that I probably didn't see in room trading. Last year I got some great Somerset things at great prices that I didn't see in room trading and back in 2005 I purchased from Hobby Bunker a great K & C Lutwaffe pilot sets. I'm really bummed this year about not being around for Saturday or the actual show.

I've mentioned elsewhere that I'll be going for the first time. So you can put me on the list.

I can't wait to get the Kermit the Frog uniforms Treefrog will be giving first-timers with our names pinned on them. :)

I'll be there but there is no way you will get me in one of those frog costumes :D

This will be my 19th consecutive year. As Brad and others stated after 3 days of room tradeing you pretty much have seen everything, plus by Sunday I am always out of money, cannot even afford the admission to the show.
However if you are a first timer definetly plan on going to the show.
For any of you that are looking to save a few bucks and are driving, I just rebooked myself at the LaQuinta Hotel for my 2 night stay for a total of $104, and that includes breakfast. This hotel is just about a half mile away from the Hyatt.
One more solid piece of advice make sure you have a pen and paper handy to write room numbers down. They always seem to run out of maps early. If you see an item in a room and say I,ll come back later and don,t write that room number down. I guarantee you will not find it again.
Also sign up for both luncheons, especially Figartis as there is always a big surprise.
Can't wait!
Gary

I just found out that you can save a fair bit of money by staying at the Amerisuite/ Hyatt Place across the street. They are having a Tos Soldier Show special. $79.00 for one adult in a king bed! Reservation 1(800)833-1516.

Gentle Friends,

Before I retired, I used to attend an annual professional conference in which "First Timers" could choose an option of connecting with a mentor who had previous experience with the conference. Many First Timers chose this option and connected with a person who was familiar with the conference setting, services, operations, workshops, etc. The mentor would also make it a point to introduce the new person to other attendees. Has such a concept ever been considered for Treefroggers?

It would seem to me that having a core of volunteer Treefrog mentors would more quickly help the First Time attendee learn the ropes of the show. Such a program would also provide some ease for the new attendee to meet other Treefroggers as well as demonstrate the warmth and friendship that characterizes the relationships among Treefrog members.

Does anyone think this idea has any merit? I would enjoy hearing how other members react to such a proposal.

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Pat,

I think the idea has great merit and in today's business world, more seasoned professional mentor other people.

I would be interested in doing it but I will only be there for two days but I may not be the best choice. Maybe someone like Gary would be interested although that is of course up to him. I am, of course, always willing to help anyone out.

P.S. I owe you an email or two, sorry

That sounds like a good idea to me Pat and if I was to ever attend, hopefully I could take someone up on this.
