(September 10, 2008) The Chicago Show Sept. 28 - Check it out

The Chicago Show is fastly approaching. We will begin our journey (1050 miles) on the 23rd.

The actual show is Sunday the 28th from 10AM-3:30PM. Room trading usually begins on Wednesday for the early birds. We should be open in the Rolling Meadows room by Wed. afternoon.

We will be displaying and setting up a little different this year. Do to the shear mass of products we bring every year we decided, with a little help from the chairman (Don), to set up in the first floor just down from the lobby.

Here is the layout...

Location: 1st Floor - City Rooms (located across from outside courtyard and next to staircase that leads to the lower level, about half way between the lobby and the rear parking area).

There are 3 adjoining rooms. Joining us in the city rooms....
> Rolling Meadows - Hobby Bunker
> Arlington Heights - Figarti Miniatures
> Schaumberg - Aero Art - The St. Petersburg Collection

This move worked out even better for us than we anticipated. As many of you know the hotel is going through massive renovations and it just so happens that our usual rooms on the 4th floor won't be completed in time for the show (the entire range of 4400 rooms and some of the 4300 rooms won't be completed by showtime).

The bar will be closed, however the tent in the rear of the building will be the bar. Hope isn't hot and humid!

What else..the lobby will be closed and everyone will have to enter the Hyatt through the rear of the building (parking lot area)

Hope to see you all there!

Good info Matt. Thanks for the update and I hope to see you there.

Mike

Sorry the 4100 and 4400 will not be open in time. So some rooms will be on the 3rd floor this year. So 3 floors of shopping!

Chicago Show: transportation between O'Hare and hotel

The Hyatt Regency Woodfield has changed the limousine company that it has a fee arrangement with. The current company is Viatas and their telephone number is 1-800-421-0607. The cost for a single person between O'Hare and the hotel is a flat rate of $26 + tip. The hotel website also lists All Star Cab (1-847-658-1555), but the cost is actually $27 (not $24). Taking a taxi will cost about $36 (not $31.50).:)

Steven,

Thanks for the info. I've used My Chauffeur and they're $34 plus tip each way.

Steven,

I have used My Chauffeur for the last 10 Chicago shows (last year they were $24 plus tip each way), but there is no longer a flat fee arrangement between My Chauffeur and the Hyatt.:(

"I have a question; If I come Sunday, should I bring some sets to trade?"

Sunday is a madhouse, busy from 10:00am right up until 3:30, so I'm not sure if dealers will have the time to haggle with you regarding trading items for new stock.

There is no real central location to trade with other collectors if you were thinking of going that route.

The beauty of the show is if you had a room at the hotel, you could bring stuff you don't want and either trade it or sell it right out of your room...................

If you want to do a trade I would hit most dealers up later in the day. Before 10Am the line stretches as far as the eye can see, then at ten there is a shotgun start ans the stampede comes pouring through. I usually have practically wet my paints by noon beacuse there is no time to go to the bathroom, eat, breath, etc.

Anyways I would try and trade Sat in the rooms or wait until after 2pM if you were planning on trading (depending what it is and which dealers you approach).

Thanks, matt
