Decided to put a "canister shot" in the dio by using a bit of a mixed bag. I took the gun crew from the new Britain's Union Artillery set, used the brass Napoleon from Collectors Showcase (bigger aperture for the smoke template and just love the blackened end of the cannon) placed the new Oryon Union Officer in prime position (top right leaning on his sword) and threw in some Troiani Iron Brigade recently purchased off of Treefrog.
Together makes for an interesting little vignette as well as taking out a whole passel of Archer's Confederates.

But meanwhile on another part of the field the Union line is breaking into a rout under the onslaught of the Virginia Brigades

WOW!!!!

That's terrific! The scale is huge. How big of an area did it take to vreat that? Gees, it almost makes me want to start an entirely new collection for ACW.

Awesome!!! Cannon shot looks great as does the whole scene.

Nicely done my Johnnie Reb from the UK it sure looks like you had fun setting the figures up for the photo shoot along with the results and looking forward to what you have in store for us next......The Lt.

Thanks Lt.

And likewise I can't wait to see what your already outstanding Drift dio will look like in 2008 after you have included the 24 plus sets of the new Britains Zulu range.
Am assuming of course you have started negotiations already with your financial adviser on the best possible options of raising the necessary Federal funds!

Haven't found her yet and most unlikely to do so. Got to negotiate with Joey to see what we have to give up his treats or mine. Got my Standard and Flyer today so I've already got my favorites in mind to add as they become available......The Lt.

That is a fantastic diorama
Thank you very much for all your posts. The mix of figures work well together.

That is simply awesome. Love the cannon blast and the whole set up.

That's gotta hurt! How did you make the muzzle blast? Is it polystyrene foam or cotton wool, whatever it is is really good.

Jeff

Sheesh Bob,
That shore is one dagnabit purely awesome diorama y'all.
Absolutely fantastic in fact. Please keep the photos coming.

Guys many thanks for your comments and am sure pleased you like the photos. A couple of you asked some questions:-

Carlos the size of the dio?
Originally 20' x 8' it depicts Gettysburg July 1st 1863. I built it in modules in my loft it had over a 1000 54mm metals with trees, Willoughby run and the McPherson's farm but it was just too darn big and very reluctantly I recently had to reduce it to 10' x 5'. Afterall that was an awful lot of lead in the loft!!!!

This habit of BIG dio's is down to building exact terrains for a London War-Gaming group when I was stationed there. They were a very affluent club called the Richmond Raiders (for my fellow American froggers Richmond is also a suberb of Greater London hence the double entendre with Virginia).
They fought most of the major ACW battles in 1/32 scale and paid me well for building their terrains even though they were hard task-masters demanding exacting accuracy. The habit stayed with me when I moved from London.

Jeff/debrito the cannon blast:
Again back to the war-gamers their troops and equipment were 1/32 plastics and they used an old guy, a brilliant artiste, who must have painted over 10,000 soldiers for them every single figure to an absolute museum standard, it was he who told me how to authenticate a gun-blast.
Take a large wad of cotton wool and rub it on the floor (young fellah! those Yanks used black-powder cannons and you wouldn't have seen much white smoke-gray yes-cotton wool pure white- never) make a pear shaped frame (7 or 8 loops) out of thin baling wire tightly tied at the end-making sure it fits snugly into the aperture of the cannon, gently push the now "gray" cotton wool between the wires of the template then spray with PVA scenic cement, let it set and paint to suit.
If your lucky -the old man got it right everytime- you can get a translucent effect at the cannon muzzle; if you look at my second pic you can actually see the wheel frame through the blast, which is exactly what you would see- from a distance- if you did look directly through a Napoleon cannon canister-blast.

I'm now going to line up my Reb battery of six guns and hopefully get a decent result as per the barrage in the film "Gettysburg"

Harry sure am sad as a possum:( I won't see ya at the London show next week, however, with a fair wind and the creek don't rise:p I'll see ya in 2008.

Bob.

Jeff

UKREB, are you sure your from the UK? Those are some fantastic shots, that cannon blast has got to leave a mark. Mike:)

Jeff I second that and look forward to having a beer and toy soldier chat. Being new to the forum how does one go about identifying other Treefroggers? Obviously one will meet the dealers and the "stars of the show" but how will I know you for example-by wearing a rubber green frog on my lapel?
Might just post this on K&C thread.

Brit all the way through but given the choice and quoting the great WC Fields "On the whole I'd rather be in Philadelphia"
