Sometimes it isn't always the teachers fault. They have a curriculum to follow remember.

Very true and perhaps the real reason for the state of education today. Teachers can only teach what they are allowed to teach by their various systems. Teachers, for the most part, do not have much leeway. Are there bad teachers? Sure, just like there are bad professionals in EVERY field. Most teachers are dedicated and do the best they can with the hand they are dealt. Bad curriculums are the major problems. Emphasis on the wrong things and a lack of basics. JMHO. -- Al

I recognize that teachers are bound by a curriculum. However, I've seen where for some teachers it's just a job, not a passion. I was talking to one of my son's friends recently, who is thoughtful and articulate, and he can't stand the high school because many teachers just don't care and go through the motions. What you do should be a passion, not just a job, especially when teaching kids.

In my experience, the dedicated teachers were few and far between. When I was in school, maybe one in every 5 teachers truly had the desire and talent to teach. 3 of 5 just went through the motions. The last of the five was miserable and took out his or her frustration on the students. They just don't pay teachers enough to attract many good people to the profession.

The curriculum also stinks, but that is because it is set by politicians, not educators.
