I was reading the other thread on repainting figures, and I want to paint some German vehicles in the early plain gray scheme. What brand and color would match the color of the Fields of Battle Kubelwagen?

Try Tamiya German Grey.....I have used it on 1:35 models....Regards Vezzolf

When you say paint do mean with a paint brush or airbrush. I agree that Tamiya German grey would be a good choice but depending your taste you might want to make it a bit lighter because it drys pretty dark.

I think it would be cool to see some vehicles with the early war 2/3 dark grey, 1/3 dark brown scheme. Since the order to paint all vehicles dark grey overall didn't come until July 31 1940 the two tone scheme would be appropriate for the invasion of Poland and France.

Reliable references I have read advise that German Gray was very dark when new. However fading, wear and tear and weathering' together with dust etc caused the color to lighten over time.

It's true that you don't see the early brown on gray color scheme on models very often, and the same can be said for the brown on yellow camo used later in WWII. I suspect that most manufacturers don't think these camo patterns would sell as well as other schemes. Which is partly why K & C make so many 'Normandy' vehicles.

Thanks for the info. I will try Tamiya German gray and weather the vehicles a little bit. I am trying to make some vehicles to use in a French dio for the new camera crew and Hitler car.
