Painted figures by John Firth (1 Viewer)

Hi Al,

Congratulations on being the proud owner of these excellent figures.

Churchill at Omdurman is my pick for favourite.

Thanks, Raymond.:)

Raymond, Treefrog just recently had an auction on ebay of a glossy painted Phoenix Churchill at Omdurman. It was a charity auction for the Japanese earthquake victims. It wasn't painted by John, but I thought that it looked rather nice.

Hi skeeterbuck,

Gosh.....I missed your post by exactly one month, sorry.:redface2:

If it was painted by John Firth, I would be kicking myself.

Thanks, Raymond:)

G'day guys, Wow thats what is called glossy art. Not sure which I like more in the group shown. I do believe I like the little lady on the horse in the Deaths Head Hussar uniform.

I believe the German riding the Camel is an old (early 70's) figure by a US Company (from Long Island???) CAVALIER. If not, then by a company named SUPERIOR from the same era. Anyone have an idea on the manufacturer??

It is great to see these old pieces painted up. I picked up the Churchill on Ebay a couple years ago. It was one of the first pieces by Phoenix (possibly sculpted by Tim Richards) and was a leading edge standard in its day.

Indeed it was very nice and I really hope to add some future glossy figures to support him in the charge at Omdurman! I was very happy to be the winning bidder on this figure and Shannon has not told me who made him so I can not add much to this discussion other than I am very happy to have him.

Dave,

Congratulations on winning the figure. It would be great if you could post a picture.

Raymond.:smile2:

These are two wonderful figures John painted for me:

1. Churchill in Omdurman (casting by Phoenix)
2. German WW1 Officer from East Africa campaign (against the British Empire :)

They are among the best military figures in my collection and mesh very well with other figures painted by a friend of mine.

John never stops to surprise me with quality of his amazing work and in-depth knowledge on the subject of the uniforms from the period.

Anyone help me gt this figure of Churchill? \i would like to paint it and present it to my CO when I am finished....he often quotes Winston and has a book he reads before he will have to make some remarks....he also cant believe his Sergeant Major collects toy soldiers and paints model Figures as well....
His jaw hit the floor when he saw my "army"

But like I said- these guys dont DUI, have PTSD, and standstill on parade....little easier than the real thing!

Hi Guys,

I will take some photos and post them. so I saw one of these on ebay the other day in unpainted and partly assembled state. So my advice is to look at ebay for one they seem to be on there fairly regularly. There has to be a current source for this kit but I am unsure as to where they are. Will try a search and see if I can find any.

John shipped my RFC pilot figure to me today. The photos he sent me make the figure look outstanding, particularly the unique facial details right down to a handle bar mustache.^&cool^&cool^&cool^&cool When the figure arrives I will take some photos with the figure alongside some of my favorite Heco Tinplate British aircraft, and ask Brad to post them for me on this thread.:smile2:

I just sent Brad a photo of John's magnificent RAF pilot figure in front of my favorite Heco Tinplate Hawker Hurricane, with a polite request that he post it on this thread.:smile2:

Really looking forward to see that RAF pilot.

He's marked as number B8 under General Interest, and as "coming soon" in their catalogue. I'm waiting on him too! Maybe if enough of us keep asking - they will cast a few??? johnnybach

Sorry for the delay. Here is the photo. This came out very nice. Can you tell us which company made the casting (might be interested myself :smile2:).

Thanks Brad!:smile2: I am not sure who made the casting, but I'm sure John could tell you. He mentioned other RAF or RFC castings by Yeomanry Miniatures in his PM when he agreed to paint the casting for me, but didn't specify whether this figure was sculpted by Yeomanry.
