Does anyone know of a panzer iv Ausf. H with the flammentöter exhaust? Or a Ausf. J having the Turret traverse motor installed?

Thanks Corey

The flammentoter exhaust replaced the standard cylindrical exhaust about August 1944 and would have been a replacement part on older Ausf. as well

The turret traverse motor and gas engine and exhaust system were replaced by a large fuel tank and a different gearing system to make hand cranking the turret easier on chassis 91501 and later. I doubt if any Ausf J would have the traverse motor system retrofit due to huge amount of work involved. Ausf J chassis earlier than 91501 had the turret traverse motor (chassis 86394 - 91500)

Thanks Terry,

So you are saying it's possible that the exhaust was a retrofit on ausf. H panzer iv's? Have you any pictures or know of any?

No I don't. It's not something I ever looked for. And if you scour the internet for photos of the flammentoter exhaust on a tank how would you tell the difference between an Ausf H and an Ausf J?

Terry

Couldn't you tell because of the Turret traverse gear box next to it?

I'm referring to the turret traverse motor mounted to the left of the exhaust.

Yes I'm referring to the muffler that was part of the turret traverse motor.

This is an Ausf. H.

An Ausf. J would not have that it would be removed.

So you want a photo that shows the turret traverse motor exhaust but with the flamentoter exhaust instead of the cylindrical muffler. i think it will be very difficult to find a photo that shows this.

That's what I'm looking for or any info that can prove this was a possibility.
