Caught PoG on cable today and was once again struck by how good George Macready was as Gen. Mireau. He was so good as the uncaring commander, that the viewer just hates him. And he was, as he says, " The only completely innocent man in this whole affair.". What a jerk and sold out by a bigger jerk, Gen. Broulard (Adolphe Menjou) for political expediency. Reminds me of drowning men trying to save themselves by standing on another drowning man's shoulders. Great film. -- Al

After having, once again, watched PoG, I have an interesting piece of trivia to add that I just became aware of. The ending sequence has a German girl singing to the troops in the cafe. In the credits, her name is Susanne Christian. Her real name Christian Susanne Kubrick. She was Kubrick's wife from 1958 until his death in 1999. She is still alive in Gemany and is 83. -- Al
