US forum members will no doubt be very familiar with this case.

I remember hearing about it at the time, 2013, but only very briefly and did not know the details.

NFL star found guilty of murder.

An interesting 3 part Netflix doco series about his background and the murder case and then a further double murder trial.

Couple of interesting points from trial. Mother of victim gives evidence about her identifying her sons body but has been told can't show any emotion as might prejudice the trial ! Another odd bit was when owner of Patriots was asked what his job was. Just said he did whatever he was asked to do.

Lots of footage from his early playing career and plenty from trials. One of the star witnesses was a friend who Hernandez had shot but not killed.

He subsequently committed suicide in jail.

I found it interesting.

I have it in my que...
I just haven't had time to view it...
but it looks interesting...

It was pretty good. When you watch it, you’ll be amazed at how dumb he was re his crimes.
Anyone who’s watched 15 minutes of tv wouldn’t make the “mistakes” he made

One must remember that his autopsy showed severe CTE. Perhaps that goes a long way towards explaining many of his actions. -- Al

He came off the rails when he was 16 and his Father died. Never had a good relationship with his Mother, she ended up marrying his uncle...………..***. He went to live with his aunt, he was closer to her than anyone.

He went to University of Florida at 17, graduated from high school early. He was totally enabled in Florida, he punched a bar manager and blew his ear drum out, he was also involved in a shooting but it got swept under the rug.

He had severe CTE, not that it's an excuse, but he was not right in the head.

He shot those two guys from The Cure nightclub in the theater district, that was an area I hug out at a lot in my younger days, worked the door at a club in that area too.

He shot his friend in Florida and Lloyd because he was paranoid they were going to dime him out over the shooting...…………………….

Pretty scary to think about all the beefs I got into in clubs in my younger days and how two guys died basically because one of them bumped into Hernandez and spilled his drink.

And I'm not buying that he hung himself, he just got acquitted of the double homicide and was up for an appeal on the first murder. He was not one to commit suicide.

Unless the story that broke about his sexuality pushed him over the edge.

Just a real mess all around.

To add a bit more; he dropped all the way to the fourth round, even that snake oil salesman Urban Meyer had had enough of him, told him after his junior year he basically was not welcomed back.

Imagine him and Gronkowski being drafted the same year...…………...million dollar talent, .05 cent head.

George,
He did leave three handwritten suicide notes. He was shown being very happy after getting off the double murder. He still had the appeal going on first case but evidence looked fairly strong against him.

The suicide came only two days after some journalists or radio guys "outed" him about his sexuality. The doco played a bit of it and it was very crude and cruel type humour they used. Hopefully they were slammed for it after his suicide. He had spent his whole life trying to hide it so a fairly big trigger for his suicide.

The doco went fairly easy on his parents with the father coming across as a role model. However Wikipedia paints a quite different picture of his parents.

He was a powderkeg waiting to explode. His crimes were of anger not robbery or revenge.

George,

No doubt a mess. Watched it last night with the wife. We both commented on how handsome he was, just a good looking kid and so sad that he is responsible for deaths of innocents, including his own.

It is really rarity that this guy did all the things he did in such as short time in his life; college, NFL, father..murderer. Its just uncanny and mind boggling. This documentary was by far in my opinion the most thorough in explaining the time line. For whatever reason I though he was older than he was, but the documentary was able to reel in a literal play by play of what happened, when. I'm sure you Patriots fans were in a funk when this happened. Especially, when the Patriots were having such a stellar run during that time.

So many times we hear after the fact that if someone would have stepped in and put him on another trajectory everything would have turned out different. But, like other athletes and celebrities who die suddenly there is no one who comes out and says "I tried to stop it". That seems to be the curse of fame and self destruction. It wasn't surprised to hear his own mother berating him (while he was in jail) for not giving him a "million dollars" so she could be set for life. It reminded me of the Bernie Kosar story of how his dad made a side deal for a million to see to it that his son signed with the Browns. It's just despicable in my opinion how people act when around money...or perceived money and use their own kids for self enrichment. Freaking pathetic.

George, I think he committed suicide and his suicide notes (to me) point in that direction. There are times when people just cash out, call it quits, look for a "do over" in life and end their own misery. I don't think any of us can imagine what was going on in his mush of a brain when he hung himself. But we do know is that it's over for him, but certainly not over for those who were left in his wake of destruction.

What a sad, sad story.

Well said.

When his mother said "Why can't you give me a million dollars?!?!"...……...it was heartbreaking; yeah, he should have just handed you a million dollars, especially when you shacked up with and then married his uncle, which IMO was the beginning of him coming off the rails.

He was extremely paranoid, which is one of the side effects of smoking weed.

He ruined a lot of lives needless to say...…………..

No offense but for those who know me, I have a hard time finding sympathy for this waste of space. Feel sympathy for his victims but his suicide saved the taxpayers a crap ton of money. End of story for me.

I watched this last night...kind of with Tom on this...not enough excuses for me to justify his choices...I know he had an abusive family life with his father...I understand his mother was no prize either...I know he had a tough time hiding his sexuality...and I know he fell in with the wrong bunch...I also think there is much more to the story of Alexander Bradley...the guy that claims Hernandez shot him in the eye...but not enough excuses to be involved in so many murders and shootings...the evidence against him seemed pretty overwhelming to me...I would have voted guilty if I were on the jury...him and Gronk on NE at the same time...both in their absolute prime...talk about dominant...definitely the best TE combo in the league...

Right; no excusing his behavior.

However, I do understand it. He's a strait up sociopath and if you truly know anything about sociopaths, they have no conscience, no ability to feel remorse or process right from wrong due to the fact that that portion of their brain never developed, so they do not have the ability to reason and understand right from wrong.

When I was working the door at a club and someone started giving me a hard time, I was able to shut it down and not punch the persons lights out. A sociopath like Hernandez does not shut it down, he punches the guy, like he punched the bar manager who requested that he pay his tab.

A guy spills a drink on my shirt, I get annoyed but I walk it off; he blows a gasket, follows the two guys and guns them down in the middle of the street.

He feels like Bradley disrespected him, he shoots him in the face, he feels like Lloyd was running his mouth at a club about the double shooting, he makes arrangements to kill him.

He was not right in the head...……..period.

No excuses.

Just a fact.
