Guys last night I watched again -after many years- the war film Patton. Wow! I had almost forgotten what a superb movie it is even though it is now almost 40 years old with George C Scott's outstanding performance as "Blood & Guts" bringing me out in goose-flesh.

Hollywood has rarely if ever given such a resounding human portrait of an extraordinary and outstanding soldier; cruel, cursing, downright foolish in his relationships with his allies, hating his adversaries and attracted to violence by killing them to get the necessary result- but brave, dedicated and loyal to his flag and country. An exceptional American soldier!

A general can have no greater compliment than to be feared by his enemy and Patton was more feared by the Germans than any other Allied general in Europe highlighted by the German officer who states in the film "the absence of war will destroy him" and it did!

So treat yourself to a repeat ride, if it's not in your DVD library go hire it and watch this great war movie and five will get you ten that the haunting soundtrack music by Jerry Goldsmith will have you humming it all the next day-just as I am now!

It really is a good movie with the exception that Monty comes across like a poof and the horrendeous suggestion that our British women might be somewhat less than ravishing. Michelle McManus eat your heart out.
:D:rolleyes::rolleyes:;)

The huge flaw in the movie is how it portrays the British, a big negative in my view.

Aye, we were just bit-part actors on the stage.
Seriously though, its an enjoyable movie at its own level. Might watch it again tonight as well. Love the lines at the beginning,
"When someone asks what did you do in the war, do you want to tell them, well, aaah shovelled $hit in Alabama...." LOL.
Well, its something like that Patton says.

Cheers

I thought that was the norm in most Hollywood films....Hell! we're used to it now.

Harry- the quote was actually "shovelling $hit in Louisiana" but based on the above quote from jazzeum it could quite easily have been "shovelling $hit in Scotland"

Yeah, I remembered it was something like that.
I shovelled enough $hit in Scotland when I was a nipper, now I do it world-wide. Aaaah, the delights of modern life.
:D:D:eek:;):rolleyes:
