Yo Troopers, having real problems with the old PC, its OK for half an Hour just flies, then all of a sudden just comes to a standstill, takes five minutes to get a page up and 10 minutes + to shut down. Done all the usual checks, cleared all temp files & Cookies out, system restored to an early date when it was OK, fragmented the disc, disc clean up, loads of disc space. Done virus checks all clear. When I go to close a page it just drains down from the top of page. Any PC wizz kids out there know what the problem could be, or anything else I could try, only started a week back. The wifes Laptop through my router is fine, so thats not the problem. Just took five minutes to get this up HELP.

Yo Trooper, good point that mate, sure your not an ex Hussar;). Forgot I hadn't dusted the Tower out for ages, plus had a box one side of the tower over the vent, and big envelopes on the other side, plus the Tower was pushed right back in the work bench with a cross piece behind it, so maybe the air flow was restricted. Let you know how it goes tomorow if its OK getting you promoted:D. Think I need to put myself on stable duties for not thinking:eek: Put it down to old age lol.

If it is also noisy it could be the hard drive is just wearing out, eventually they make a crunching sound and stop altogether :D If improved ventilation doesn't help you may need to buy a new pc trooper.

Yo Troopers thanks for your help. Had real serious problems, had it in the repair shop twice and rebooted. Found out the problem would you Adam & Eve it my Anti Virus. Came out of the shop with a free download Avast Anti Virus put in and it was flying, as soon as I put my own Anti Virus back in the PC came to a full stop:mad: Took 20 minutes to open the control panel and then it wouldn't but the programme feature up, and 20 minutes to shut down. So asked for refund, its the last thing I would have thought of and it cost me £60.00 in the repair shop:mad:.

You should only use One anti virus in your PC as they tend to conflict with each other. As I said earlier, it may be that your hard drive is at the end of its life. A new Hard Drive isn't expensive but usually its more cost effective to buy a new pc as the other components such as fans etc also have a limited life. I use Norton 360 as my anti virus buster, it works well and doesn't slow down other programs.

It's obvious what is wrong with Bernard's PC. He is not using a big enough hammer!
