Sitting here watching John Ford's "Rio Grande" tonight on a local cable movie channel. One of my favorite exchanges in the movie comes up, where the son of CO John Wayne gets in the fight with another soldier. Sgt. Quincannon wants to know what caused the fight and the character played by Harry Carey Jr. says that he was called the 'Teachers pet of a chowder-headed mick sergeant." I thought I just missed it but when the phrase was repeated a minute later, it was confirmed, the phrase 'chowder-headed mick sergeant' had changed to 'chowder-headed ... sergeant.' The word 'mick' had been edited out of both exchanges. PC has gone way too far when they start editing words/phrases out of a movie made in 1950. Give me a freakin' break.:mad: -- Al

Al, just tell me it wasn't TCM that did that? THis is why I rarely watch anything that is not on Blu Ray or DVD, even then you have to make sure you get the uncut versions. Freaking ridiculous

Hi Tom, no, it wasn't TCM, the last bastion of civilization on US tv. It was just some cable station labeled 'MOVIE". It is strictly a movie station that does interrupt with commercials and edits, but it does show older films. I was just stunned that someone bothered to edit a movie from 1950. I guess it is fortunate that they didn't edit out 'chowder-head', unless it was an oversight.:rolleyes2: -- Al

That's not something TCM would do, just because of who they are.

Hey Al, I saw the last half of Porkchop Hill on TCM last night.
A great war movie and one of my all-time favorites. It is no coincidence that it was directed by Lewis Milestone, the genius of the original All Quiet on the Western Front. -- Al
