Penny Dreadful - City of Angels (1 Viewer)

They say it's nothing like the original. Not saying it won't be good just different.I gave up Showtime anyway.

The first episode was a mixed bag. The city of LA circa 1938 is the star. A lot of great locales, cars, clothes and haircuts. Reminds me a bit "Chinatown" on a lower budget. The plot is not exactly flying along though. It reminds me a bit of season two of The Terror. An oppressed ethnic group plagued by their mythical female demonic entities.

This turned out to be even worse than I anticipated. A travesty that it was associated with the original series. Terrible in so many ways. A message PC exercise that, ironically, engaged in many ethnic stereotypes. The Hispanic characters were all like something straight out of West Side Story. It wasn't just "dreadful" it was Penny Awful. The melodramatic last line trying to make the story somehow an indictment of the current political situation came off forced and ridiculous.

I didn't particularly care for this one either. It borders on ridiculous and absolutely stupid at times, boring at others and just not entertaining in any way. I hope it doesn't get a second season. I mean, how many PC stereotypes can you incorporate into 1 show, not that any of them were bothersome, they were just overstated in that it became more of a message than entertainment, I just don't get that. I don't watch "guilty pleasure" type shows for a message, I watch them to be entertained.

I hate these PC fanatics that try to force their thinking down people's throat.I don't mind hearing different opinions but they go too far.I don't watch much tv anymore.
