Peter Jacksons Gallipoli diorama (1 Viewer)

Hmm very interesting! It's a great opportunity for Kiwi toy soldier enthusiasts to recreate an important part of their nation's history.
Cheers,
Brendan

Wow 4000 figures and in 54mm...should be a HUGE diorama!
Jackson did well enlisting the Perry brothers to do the sculpting!

WOW ... 4000 x 54mm figures .... I'd love to help out, but I'm too busy painting all my other commissions.... and if I did cross the Tasman and leave them here, there would be few disappointed collectors :}

I hope we all get to see the final result of the Kiwi painters 'hard labour'

I will try and post some shots when it opens to the public , matching up that many different painters work
could be a nightmare .

I was thinking that myself. I wonder if they are supplying paints and painting guides? That being said most of the larger dioramas I have seen tend to tone down the paint jobs as your eye looks at the larger picture.

On the subject of Gallipoli. there is an excellent diorama of the Bridging train currently at the National Maritime Museum in Sydney. It is stepped in that the front figures appear to be 1/32 moving back to 1/48 then 1/72 (I think).

Well worth a look if you're about Sydney.

I emailed Perry Brothers to ask if the figures would be for sale to the general public and their response was 'I'm not sure yet I'm afraid' so read into that what you will, I do hope that they will be at some stage. We are planning a Gallipoli dio of our own at the museum this year, won't be a on such a grand scale of course but we will give it our best shot.

If it's anything like the ones you've done so far it will look great.

Here's another update on Peter Jacksons massive WW1 ANZAC Gallipoli diorama with 5000 figures being produced and painted, along with Weta workshops building the terrain. Enjoy.

BRILLIANT !!!!

This is THE BEST diorama that I have seen, as they terrain is taken from the original landscape and so show the ruggedness of the ground that the troops had to fight in.

The figures are most unique, especially the piles of corpses that were used as a form of defence from the enemy fire.... most sobering !!!!

Lest We Forget

Trumped again by Kiwis! :wink2: on a all together grander scale than our humble (yet to be completed) Gallipoli dio. Sir Peter has very deep pockets and it's good to see him spending some on such a worthy project :salute:::salute:: now what about that Dambusters movie ?. :rolleyes2:

Don't be too hard on yourself mate, PJ has had a small army of wargamers franticly painting figures for weeks now and the Weta team on the job as well.

It's a wonderful project, but you boys have done amazing things with your displays and all done in ya weekends, with a few good keen blokes on a tight budget. ^&grin

Yes can't wait for him to finish the Dam-busters flick once and for all. He's opening his big WW1 display today here in NZ in time for ANZAC day commemorations. I'll try and post some pics shortly.

Just extraordinary, one is gobsmacked! how brilliant is that? Mate next time you're over at Pete's for a chop or two on his barbie tell him 'Onya mate' from me.. :salute::

Leave it with me mate.....me and PJ are tight and go way back before LOTR. I'm popping over to his place tomorrow with a few Orcs, for a couple of 'quiets' and some beauty lamb-chops and pork bangers.^&grin

This is fantastic! It's nice to see that so much is being done in New Zealand to commemorate this important occasion. I'm excited to see the finished Gallipoli diorama. I'm sure it will be outstanding. Are there any forum members assisting with the project?
Cheers,
Brendan

Nice to see a country with pride in itself. We seemed to be ashamed of anything we've ever done over here anymore.I'm not saying that our past is glorious in every way but we have done a lot of good in the world too.

To be honest Brendan I'm not sure mate, I have no doubt quite a few members both here and overseas would love to be involved. There was some talk of ex-pat Kiwi's who are living overseas been given the opportunity to contribute, but I think time was too short and then there was all the postage issues.

I'm sure other countries such as Canada, the US, Aussie and the UK could follow on with this type of idea to commemorate their own military history and involvement in various wars. Getting the public to contribute is the key and as we've seen down here there has been no end of folks, young and old who were more than happy to get involved. :salute::

I'm also amazed how many young kids have developed a genuine interest in all of this history too, it's really quite special to see, especially for the veteran's.

Cheers Toddy
