THE DAM BUSTERS---Peter Jackson said his long-gestating remake of the 1955 World War II movie about the 1943 RAF raid on Germany's Ruhr Valley dams is back on track, "It's just a great story. It's always been a great story. But it's an even greater story now than it was in 1955 because back then there was still so much of the story that was under the Official Secrets Act." The movie is based on James Holland's book DAM BUSTERS: THE RACE TO SMASH THE DAMS. Holland is a historical adviser on the movie. The original movie starred Richard Todd and Michael Redgrave.

TRIVIA---in THE DAM BUSTERS, a then-unknown Robert Shaw (JAWS, FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE) played Flight Sergeant John Pulford.

In THE DAM BUSTERS, Robert Shaw plays Flight Sergeant John Pulford with Richard Todd playing Wing Commander Guy Gibson.

The trouble with remaking wonderfull old films e.i. Zulu, The flight of the Phoenix etc is where do you find all those wonderfull character actors who contributed so much to the finished product. The Jimmy Stuart, Stanley Baker, Nigel Green ,Richard Todd etcs are simply not there any more in an age when CGI is more important than human interest. Also the PC brigade will kick off over the name of Guy Gibson’s black Labrador. How about using a toy Poodle and calling him Whitey?
