OK - Now I understand

I was just wondering if available resources had an effect on the decision - or if they were put together quickly since the Battle of Britain came on England pretty fast.

Interesting they still left all those Pillboxes up.

I hope to post more over the coming months Ron.Now i know how to post i am also going to take a trip up to London and take some pics of odds and sods of Military and Historical interest,some which may be of interest to you mate

Ron, just to throw Rob off his track! Some of the pillboxes around where I live in Sussex are made from brick and just as thick as some of the concrete ones, I think you are quite right that what resources were available at the time depended on the finish article.

Most of these are still standing due to the high cost of trying to demolish them and so most farmers just let them be.

I will try to add some more photos to the earlier ones I posted.

Don't listen to him Ron!.

I'm sure some were thrown up very quickly with what they could lay their hands on,however i'm wondering if precious concrete was saved for the most vital areas of defence.However as Jeff says,even a brick built pillbox at three to four feet thick would take some denting,especially by lightly armed FJ's etc.Check out this link;
