Does anyone know anything about a Pirate figure group made by Monarch? I'm told might be mid 1980's and I am not even sure it was Monarch.
I was told it was some name starting with an M and guy who told me he thought it was Monarch.
Or are there any other pirate lines I should know about? I have Conte pirates but need others. I'd prefer painted.

Hi, yup Monarch, then Sanderson had same/similar moulds. I belive John Edens were similar too. Search on ebay, the castings are still out there, every once in awhile ebay id of anzoh...... or a canadian painter brad ledger does them too. They are out there, be patient.

And thank you! Now that it is confirmed as Monarch i can begin my search.

The set is called "The Pirates of Tortuga." Some of the characters are, shall we say, doing "adult" things, so they remain in the back of my pirates display which has mostly Conte figures. However, the sets are great, but you have to paint them yourself. I have what I think is the full set, and still enjoy them late at night.

The maker is Monarch, and the sculptor is Derek Sanderson (noted for his baudy subjects!), who for a while produced under Sanderson Miniatures. I believe Monarch is still in business - in NJ if I recall correctly.

Good luck.

Think you will find that the Pirates of Tortuga figures are now owned by Fleurbaix. They are all illustrated on his website. Trooper

Hey Everyone !

I was delving into the deep dark corners of the forums looking for some information and I happened to come across this.

I don't have a website up at the moment as I am redesigning it.

I do still own the Pirates of Tortuga Range that Sanderson produced aswell as the rest of the Sanderson Range.. John Eden does produce some castings of the range still but he sold the moulds and masters onto my father for Fleurbaix Toy Soldiers.

If anyone is still interested in acquiring some of these flick me a message and I can give you prices and try and dig out some pictures.

Cheers
