What would you think of re-prasing the question to make it more helpful to K&C. Instead of asking 'Do you want to see them made' how about asking 'At what price would you be willing to purchase a warbird?'

Wouldn't that help gauge interest?

If there is interest in such a poll, we'll get one together

Pete

I don't think that's necessary as Andy has indicated that he's interested in making them again. This poll has helped to spark that interest. Right now, it's just a question of finding the right factory. Before you can discuss price, I think you need to get consensus on making them.

In addition, I believe Andy has said that he'd like to price them around $200.

I know it won,t happen, but I would love if Andy made unpainted plastics in the same scale as Conte,s and TSSD.
If he does this, I,ll change my no to warbirds.
Gary

Gary and I agree. Let the encampment rejoice.

At that price, it would be a good deal.

If Motion Models can make such great planes, I really don't see why K&C can't.

Actually, I am saving to purchase a Macchi 202 from them.

Pierre.

Is it most folks concensus that Motion Models is the place to have wooden airplanes made , or are there other mfg. that might equal in quality at a lower price....? Michael

I can't speak for other manufacturers as I really don't know them but I've purchased two planes from Motion because they'll make them the K & C way, gear down. However, there are places on ebay that will sell them with the gear up. I can't vouch them but as far as I can tell they don't look bad. I also know K & C quality and Motion Models quality but do not know how well these other planes would be made.

DEFINITELY NOT!!!!!!!!

1) If I wanted airplanes I would be reading an "airplane group" list instead of a "toy soldiers"list. Collecting airplanes is a whole different facet to the hobby (to me anyway).

2) No space to store or display anything other than a couple 1:32 P51s

3) Warbirds will only distract K&C from my beloved WW2 GI stuff. Andy is only one man, if he's putting time into airplanes, he's not putting time in on tanks. Hate to see his effort diluted.

I'm sure I'll get flamed for those comments, but that's how I feel about the warbirds.

binder001:

I couldn't have stated it better. Only, that I wish I had room enought to hang up the FOV ME109 and P51 I already have and love.

Sorry guys, I'm with Binder001 on this one, especially since there are some many other things that Andy could produce and probably get a better return. Maybe I'm wrong.

Mitch, Binder & Desk11,

You are all officially prohibited from ever attending the New York Symposium (as is anyone else I find voting against warbirds).

I dont have anything against them making planes but have no real interest in buying them,I found another company called cruz that makes wooden warbirds ,from the photos they look very similar to K and C,s ones,
but i havent seen them first hand.so as it a black and white yes or no
i,m a no.

Switching to GUNS! Target acquired & requesting permission to fire! No more "TOP COVER" for your GIS then. Hang Tough.

Give me a couple of lrdg chevys and the boys can take em out before they
get of the ground:p

Well, I voted "no".

I would rather Andy push ahead with other types of vehicles - remember, he's already done them before and in quantity.

I would not want to burden him with dealing with those companies ever again. I just got a little taste of dealing directly with the manufacturer - I bailed out (no pun intended). They are nuts and they are not reliable. Why hold Andy to the fire on planes with a general release date only to have that date get pushed back and back and back? Why should Andy, as a business man, want to deal with that madness? Do you want him to get the reputation Conte has?

Let's look at it this way - a wood plane in 1/32 - 1/30 scale is between $110 to $180 right now. With all the extras K&C puts on those planes how could the price possibly be $200??? Then, if he were to order, say, 600 of each plane - that factory would take in excess of a year to produce only part of the series. Is this worth the headache to a company who has brilliantly experimented with different materials to overcome this very issue of cost and production?

I say no. Continue to push ahead and don't take steps backward, even if it means that a few don't get what they want in the short term. Produce what people would never expect to see - like the DUKW, other support vehicles and armor.

Just my opinion tho it doesn't always jive well with popular opinion.

A Horsa Glider for some paratroopers...Can't sleep anymore. Count me in!

Gideon,

When he mentioned that a plane might be around $200 (I'm not sure this is etched in stone), I was surprised that it would be this low. However, if you're making, say, 500, there are economies of scale that you can take advantage of when you're only having a handful made.

Brad,

The economics of scale are the least to consider. Those companies are highly un-relaible. There is also the economy of time.

If he were to make them of polystone, find a way to make them lighter and warehouse them in the US to lighten the shipping costs then I would be excited about it.

Why return to the days when so much of his production was so out of reach? In the early days, the people who were introduced to King & Country at my store (with the exception of a few) could not afford to buy the tanks, planes and other vehicles due to cost. The polystone vehicles were released and out they went in quantity. I just view this as a huge step backwards.

Also, wouldn't this be considered a "re-release"? Any of the planes made in the same livery as the original series would kill the secondary market and really agravate a number of collectors. The detail would not be much better than the originals due to the limitations of the materials - so they really would re-issues while only the figures would be better.

Put me on the list of unwelcome. There, Now thats a new acheivement for me, getting kicked out of something before I ever attend!

I would say "no" and "yes". I have both wooden and polystone planes. The polystone are more detailed. So "no" to wooden planes and "yes" to polystone but very limited not like one every month.

Pierre-
The Smithsonian Air Musuem in DC has one of the few remaining Macchi's. Very cool. Do you have a picture or link to the one you are buying?
