Poste Militaire (1 Viewer)

75mm Sutton Hoo Figure. The base is unmarked as to maker, possibly Superior or Sovereign. The same figure is shown in the book Military Modeling by Vic Smeed 1996 and the painting was credited to Peter Wilcox.DSCF3097.JPGDSCF3098.JPGDSCF3099.JPG

The base, round with a rope triming, is typical of Sovereign 75mm range

About the picture credited P Wilcox .... I have serious doubt, Wilcox was a finer painter ( well it's a long time ago , 40 years ... ) and perhpas this one was among his first works
If you can, consult magazine Military Modelling Jan 1978 and Feb 1986

Thanks for the info about the roped base; as you say it was a long time ago! Peter Wilcox painted the figure illustrated in the book I cited. I painted the figure in the photo and I agree it is not up to Peter's standard of quality; but I enjoyed painting it.

The images of the Poste Militaire miniatures bring back a lot of memories...back in the 80s they were among the best military miniatures available.

I personally think they are still among the best. I have all the 90mm NAP PM ones (in the process of painting all of them) and the level of details, uniform accuracy and posture of the PM figures is excellent IMHO. Very few manufacturers produced 90mm now (75mm and 54mm are more popular) so to me with Andrea and Pegaso, PM is still the reference of quality sculpts in that range!
