Potentially More Controversy (1 Viewer)

I have a great idea:D:D:D

How about a set that shows how easy the Gestapo were to catch off guard;)

How about a Gestapo car with bullet holes in the windscreen, and a dead German in the driving seat, and the car could also have open doors at the back and the door not on the drivers side, and some German soldiers racing for cover, but a French resistance fighter helping a captured beaten comrade out one of the back doors:eek:, and some French resistance figures waiting at the sides of the car to kill the escaping German officers, and one standing infront of it to fire at the driver:D:D

Well, it is a little bit imaginative:D:rolleyes:;)

I hope the French resistance do one day get a range of their own. There could be some fascinating figs/scenarios,with action figures and also sets depicting stop and search etc.

The Compiegne idea came up in another thread and I still think it's a great idea although it may have two potential drawbacks.

One, it would be big. You'd need room for it.

Second, as France is now a growing market for toy soldiers, how would French collectors react to a set recalling an ignomonious (hope I spelled that right) episode in their history?

Well plenty of them collect Napoleon and Waterloo so I suppose it should not matter too much

Make a basic set of the railway car and track. Then make 2 sets of figures, one each of the victors and losers from 1918 and 1940.

That's a good point and Andy did say he liked the idea so it's a possibility and would be a very interesting set.

You could always sooth any sensibilities by having the carraige as a standalone piece, which could be used with either an add-on set of WWI figures or WWII figures:D:D Same carraige used for WW1 and WWII, was destroyed by the SS in 1945 , buried and never found but at end of WW11 the French used German POW's to rebuild the Compiegne site and built a replica carraige

Very interesting thread.
I use to have a collection of WWII Nazi daggers, bayonets, medals, patches and such. I "had to" get out of that collecting hobby for two reasons.
One, the prices got way, way out of hand. Two, the main reason, the items produced a lot of controversy and I alway was explaining myself. I loved the historical aspect of the item that I was holding. Who did this medal belong to? What happened to him? Where did he fight?

However everyone always assumed the worse reasons for my collection. I also had American, British and Japanese items. It was interesting that no one ever brought up any thing bad against the Japanese????

Why do the Japanese atrocities seem to get over looked by so many? Oh well.

So after a few years it became to much of a hassle to keep explaining. Besides Toy Soldiers offers so many more interesting things to do and much better folks.

But Andy one "range" that I would like to see is America POWs (European Theater). I would love to do a Stalag 17 Diorama or maybe the "Great Escape"

Great idea mate..;)

Just don't get me started on the deal Hirihito's boys and the Americans strike to overlook the atrocious war crimes.
