My next dio will be set in a Normandy village on the 6th june . Early morning, children are going to school and the village is slowly coming to life. The centre piece of the dio ( apart from the US paras) will be a Normandy butcher shop. I started painting the house and will explain how I do it
1.Paint the house in the base colours of your choice after putting on first a coat of primer on the ceramic parts ( I used Humbrol enamels for the base colours) I used light green for the facade ( a mixture of Humbrol matt white and green matt 105 and light grey matt 75) and light grey for the window frames ( matt 75)
The shop I painted in Burgondy red a mixture of red, dark brown and blue Humbrol enamel)

2.When the base paints are dry, I put a fine line of Van Dyck brown oil paint around the window frames and dots of white, cold and warm grey oil paints on the facade together with dots of the green Humbrol enamel I used to obtain the light green base colour.

3.With a flat brush blend all these colours together until you obtain the desired effect. If you are not satisfied with the result, you can start all over again, no problem. I also painted the cement joints between the bricks in light grey Humbrol enamel diluted with White Spirit. I used the same mixture to drybrush the bricks .
Will show a picture when the house is completely finished and when it is time to tackle the roof

Still waiting for some more pictures. Chris.

Chris,
I want to finish the facade, the roof, and the windows before I show you the next step . With a bit of luck this will be finished by the end of this week. Will post pics asap

If you want to see how far I've got well, here are a few picture to appease your appetite
I painted the whole facade applying the technique I explained earlier . The roof is painted in Humbrol black ,when dry it received a wash of diluted Van Dyck brown oil paint , and here and there some deluted gold ochre oil paint . When the paint was completely dry I dry brushed it with cold grey oil paint. The chimney received some "pot black" oil paint at the top to simulate the soot. Now I started working on the front windows and the door. These will be scratch built. The shop will be tackled later. As soon as the windows and the door are finished I will put some more pics on this thread.

The window dressing certainly adds to the realism. Can see why you put in so much effort. Robin.

Here you have a picture of the Normandy house almost finished; only the front door and the gutters are still missing. This is a job for next week. Then the 1st item of my new dio will be finished completely
