This follows on from the recent Britains Greatest Battle poll where family member saw a sketch on National Army Museum web page.

Private Jenkins’s name was somehow left out of the Roll of Honour, and for more than 130 years his descendants have tried in vain to have his heroism recognised.

But they had no proof – until spotting a sketch of a ‘Private Jenkins’ by a Victorian war artist that was being used to illustrate a competition run by the National Army Museum.

Perhaps Britains might name a future figure after him (note he is kneeling in Lady Butlers painting)

Great story Brett, it featured on Sky News Breakfast Show this morning, thanks for posting it {bravo}}

Some interesting Readers comments :wink2: :rolleyes2:

Cheers

Martyn,

As you might have guessed I am a regular reader of the DM web page. Best free newspaper online I have found and so many stories relevant to what is happening down in Oz.

They even have Australian stories I never hear about down here (ie. todays story about some idiot in Darwin paddling amongst crocodiles - I hasten to add all people from Darwin are not idiots although there might be a reason the Darwin Awards are named after Darwin^&grin).

For the deep thinker there are also the bikini stories. If I need to know that Mel B has been swimming in Sydney or if Coco has a new costume the DM has the latest coverage (or is it uncoverage :wink2:).

Yes some of the comments are very interesting. I like the way you can click to like or dislike a comment and it creates a total.

The green and red arrows are a great idea, I tend to use them a lot :wink2:

It is often difficult to get official records corrected. A family at a school I taught at pushed for years to get their brother's (and as the years passed, uncle's and great uncle's) cause of death altered in his military file. The offical record had 'Died as POW' and the family wanted it changed to 'Murdered'. He had been marched into the forest by German police a day after being captured, shot and then buried. It was not a systemic act in that it was a decsion made outside of official control by thee individuals who happened to be police. They were charged and convicted after the war (I have seen the official records). They had no luck getting it changed.
