Has anyone here had any problems with in reference to how tightly the lids fit the Humbrol tins?

I have used Humbrol paint for over 30 years and the lids in the past have always fit tightly. I am careful to clean the rim of the tin and the lip of the lid to insure a good seal. I have many tins in my collection of paint that I know are over 25 years old and are still in excellent useable condition.

The most recent Humbrol tins have a somewhat looser fitting lid and just the other day I went to use one and the paint had dried up because the lid didn't fit tightly.

Chuck,

Ive used plenty of Humbrol over a similar time frame and never had a problem with either the older or new tin lids - tight as a nun's chuff!

Might be a duff batch, try rotating the lid then close it.

I hate to admit this but I rarely clean the lids that well and as a result I think the paint residue helps form sort of a custom seal. Even though I am converting to acrylic based Model Color by Vallejo, I still use Humbrol white and yellows for the best coverage.
I remember how happy I was when my friend in middle school brought the first little tins of Humbrol home from a visit to the UK. Wow! RAF and Luftwaffe colors right from a tin... It is still great paint.

Yea Jeff, I thought of rotating the lid, but it still doesn't seem to work. I hopeing your correct about the duff batch.

Also... Jeff is Gloy paint still available? I also have about 6 of these that I recently was given by an old modeler who stopped building. That also came/comes in tins and is still good even though the tins have rust on them. They look to be from the 70's or so.

Chuck,

Gloy paint!....that brings back memories along with the range made by Airfix, neither as good as Humbrol imho, I think it was around 1980 or so when they stopped for whatever reason.

I've had some problem with paint drying and the lid on securely.

What I do with those tins is I clean them up and store them upside down for a while!

The paint doesn't run out but will make a seal, and then next day you can turn them upright to see the coloured lid.

Easy :)

I would agree with Ken. I don't clean the lids that well either, and rarely have had one dry out. I have a friend who has a few cans of "French Artillery Green" that are over 25 years old that he still uses. I have had problems trying to keep mixed paint from drying out stored in mixing jars. Which I don't understand since they are airtight.
