Here's the start of another improbable diorama - improbable because its too ambitious {as usual}. Let's call it VS for very stupid to even start something without a clear endpoint.
The logistics are the usual nightmare as I have to sift thru my considerable GA collection. Pleasurable as there are so many spares to choose from and, frustrating at the same time as there are the usual gaps.

So I am starting off with the usual iconic figure, the mounted figure. Most of the pieces will be executed in 1/32 but this figure is placed in the background. As I have used up most of my smaller 1/35 horses for the other dioramas, I have to knock up a smaller horse from the remaining spares.

As usual, this is based on a very familiar painting but not necessarily obvious.

Victor,

Looking forward to seeing your work as it progresses. Also, I don't think you're too ambitious or stupid for creating something without a end game in mind. I like to think of it as a creative challenge where eventually the pieces fall into place.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your kind words of encouragement but at this stage, here's the sorry looking mtd figure. Definitely not Historex....hahaaha.

I've actually sculpted further but didnt have the time to take the updated pics.

Remounted the horse figure. Recruited more figures to this scene. Probably more figures than my Hougomont scene.

Almost done on the horseman. Just adjusting one of the back hindlegs of the horse.. Will add the bit and reins last.

Sculpting a few foreground figures. Hence they look relatively large when cf to the horseman.

Added arms to the foreground figures. Completed the horseman. Will cut back on the hooves.

I didn’t like the horse so I ripped out the mtd figure to place on another horse which seems to give a better pose. The 2nd horse has a metal modeles head on a truncated historex body.

WIP on the mtd horseman

IMG_1647.jpg
Added a saddle. Glued the figure onto the horse

IMG_1660.jpg
Added musculature and a tail to the horse.

IMG_1666.jpg
Added a mane and ears. Reshaped the horse eyes.

I decided to make up a group of figures around the horseman.

IMG_1659.jpg
I selected some discarded figs to act as mannequins, incl two half castings.

IMG_1665.jpg
I selected four figs and started to work on them. These figs were further reposed until they looked right for my purposes. Notice that the head of "Josephine" is used for the bowing figure.

IMG_1667.jpg
Following further work, I grouped all the figures that are meant for this piece. Note the disparity in size and scale.

WIP on the group of figs

IMG_1670.jpg
After some prelim detailing work, I added wire arms. Notice that I am trying to give these figures 17Cent coats. The bowing fig is meant to be seen from the back. That is a Historex tricorne...

IMG_1671.jpg
Suitable arms were attached. The robed figure has scalelink arms (German WWI, I think).
aa.jpg
Some details were added to the arms. The tricorne has some fur added to the top edges.

Some WIP leading to a first undercoat for the mtd horseman.

IMG_1669.jpg
I raised the hind quarters of the horse and also added a visible boot and stirrup for the fig. Then added a row of buttons to his braided gown.

IMG_1672.jpg
Gave the fig an indicative coat of paint.

Really moving on completing this vignette. The robe figure has been fully done, sprayed and painted over. The other figures are further detailed.

Upon further examination of the ptg, I added hanging sleeves to the robed figure.
More putty and shaping were added to the other figures to provide the final forms. Further details will be added such as buttons, pockets and buckles.

Wonderful work, Victor! You certainly have a talent for sculpting.

Hello Mark,

The first vignette has been completed. These figs have been spray painted.

Here are more figs being recruited for this scene. Rgds Victor
