Hi,

I am going to attempt a new period for me the Franco Prussian War and I’ve got two Prussian Artillery sets to paint. I’m struggling to find suitable uniform pictures can anyone help please?21C30D16-4D88-4DAC-995D-663141BAF3BD.jpeg8E63AC7D-8250-4BAF-B02A-8D3B9181DE70.jpegB60BED6A-02AF-4450-B7AA-0A64723EA7F4.jpeg

Hi, these are old Hecker Goros figures. They are Bavarian not Prussian artillery figures.
A possible source for the uniforms is no 422 in the Men at Arms series, German Armies 1870-71 (2). Prussia's Allies.
Basically the raupenhelm/caterpillar helmet is black with gilt/brass fittings. The uniform as darkish blue, not as dark a Prussian blue but definitely darker than the Bavarian infantry cornflower blue. The facing are black with red trim.
A search of the internet will through up useful examples.
Good luck with the figures and paint job. They should paint up as a interesting vignette.

Ooops ,sorry about spelling error - delete through insert throw. Posting when tired is not recommended.

Yes, as Bob said, these are Bavarians, not Prussians. Just as a quick reference, here is the page at Hecker & Goros' website, showing some of the other Bavarians they make, from the Franco-Prussian War (the German-and-French War, as the Germans call it):

http://www.hecker-goros.de/1-32 deutsch franz. krieg

If you do a web search on "bavarian artillery 1870" you should find plenty of additional images. Their greatcoats were gray, too, by the way.

That's all I can offer, off the top of my head. I'd have to check my references when I get home.

Prost!

Hi Gary,

That 25 pdr artillery gun is a beautiful casting. Enjoy your painting. I hope you'll end up with a couple of treasures.

Much better than the photos.

They look very good Gary.

I find close up images taken on digital images don't always show figures off in their best light. They tend to be more revealing than the human eye.
