Prussians Advance! (1 Viewer)

Well I just got two of these from a friend, I have two on order that I hope ship soon. They look really nice. The box is a bit over kill I think. Maybe the other releases will be two figure sets. I am running out of box storage room {sm3}

One thing I would like to ask those attending the London show, is to petition for the bases to be changed to a light muddy brown. I think the white base makes the figure look unfinished. Like it still has primer and is waiting for some paint. This worked for snow shoes because you had bundled up figures and snow shoes on the figures. This Prussian is in just a regular uniform, which makes it look odd.

Maybe we could have dirt with snow over the base? I don't know the answer, but I think the question should be asked. Maybe I am the only one who thinks they look unfinished? Please don't get me wrong I love this figure and the range, and will be getting more, but I will be doing something with the base. Maybe some Elmers white glue and some dirt scattered about the base. That way the Elmer's can be removed with water and not ruin the figure.

I feel this is the start of a very nice range.

Brilliant imagery,

I thought that I'd get one of these new figures, but seeing them in a group, like you have posed them, I could even order more.

The white snow bases look good, standing in your snow, so can't wait for more from this campaign to be released,

Wel Done,

John

Me too John.
I received one yesterday - An amazing job on this figure and will be ordering a few more of this one.
I like the snow bases just the way they are.

I had also suggested that the bases be more of a "muddy" color so the figures could be used in different campaigns/seasons. John said in the future, if this release went well, he would probably do more generic marching and firing Prussians.

That is good to hear, though I wonder if John meant this series for the battle went well, and not just this one figure? Looking forward to more.

I'd like John come back to the origins for the marching Prussians releasing three marching soldiers sets like BoM-04 and 05

Yes, if this Series (the Battle of Leuthen) goes well he will probably expand the SYW in Europe. I think he will do India as well.

Carlo, what cost $67-$69 4-5 years ago would now cost around $115.Thanks a big chunk to come out of one's pocket at one time for some.

Mark,
first of all I apologize for my imperfect English, I trust in your patience!

As I said before I prefer the three figure sets for the chance to increase the variety of poses, mainly in a marching column. With two figures this chance is limited, the poses replay is most clear.

Concerning money I don’t know the production costs of course, I can only consider the actual set prices.
I see the price of a single figure being 39,00 dollars (LEUT-01), for two figures on the contrary I pay 68,00 dollars (GDH-09), that means that I pay each figure 34,00 dollars, 12,50% circa less than a single figure.
If I presume to save for the third figure an additional 12,50% I go to pay each single figure near 30 dollars for a final amount of 90 dollars for a three figures set.

Savings may come to my opinion by a reduced packaging and, in case of marching figures, for a most homogeneous sculpture (except heads, arms and some minor details).
As I don’t collect all JJD ranges I’d be glad to pay the above price for a set of three and increase my army faster.

Sorry to have bored you…
Carlo

You haven't bored me at all Carlo.I think you would have to compare the same type of set.Over here in the Ticonderoga range you pay $39 for one 42nd grenadier highlander and $77 for 2 which saves $1.
Mark

I think Mark is right. You won't find a new production, 3 figure set for $90 anymore. The $115 is much closer, IMO. This is why the 2 figure sets are now the norm. -- Al

Hi Carlo,

I too liked the three figure sets. And for the same reason, more poses. I have seen that some of the firing sets are done as set 1 and set 2, giving us four figure poses. I hope that John might consider doing two marching sets to give us four poses, but I think the marching sets are not as popular. From the French Sets that came out last year, for Quebec, we had two marching sets, but each set had different head dressing. So while they could be mixed together, we are still down two extra marching poses from the three figure sets that were originally released.

I think it is a valid concern for those creating a diorama where multiple poses work much better than the same two figures over and over.

While some feel the cost of a three figure set to be too costly, maybe the choice of two sets of marching figures might be less cost and give a little bit more of an option.

Send John an email, I know he reads everyone that he gets, and I know he reviews this forum site as well to see what collector's ideas are. So maybe there is hope for us in the future.

Matthew

Mark you are right, I didn't consider TICs.
Today I got my first two Grenadiers, superb figure (here in Europe we pay it more than 39 $ unfortunately!)
Cheers
Carlo

Prussians going fast.

Two days ago while in Quebec City on a work trip I visited Artisans du Blas-Canada who sell JJD. I bought a few figures from the 'Battle on SnowShoes' but also wanted to pick up the first Prussian. They were all solid out on the pre-order!

Edward

I am not surprised, this figure is a marvel!

My two Grenadiers going fast on this bridge I'm building with the usual polystyrene.
It is still lacking of minor details and paint. I hope you like.
Carlo
