Thanks Rob, Terry, Kingtoot and everyone else rooting for the Marines.....Stryker

Stryker, what I also like about these figures is not just the quality but also the poses, those guys helping each off the beach is a superb looking set, really good:cool:

And how about that Sherman, surely a flame throwing Tank is next for the Marines?.

I totally agree Rob, great animation on thse poses, as everyone had to climb over that wall--unless they blew a hole in it. Figarti did a great job on those guys! I hope they address wounded marines and Corpsman administering sulfa--lots f that happened. There is a famous picture of two marines helping a third wounded man back to the seawall for cover. I hope that the sherman comes down the road--that would not be correct for Tarawa, but definately for Iwo!

Two shermans--Colorado and China Gal, one on each end of the marine lines helped to form the first night defensive perimeter, when things were pretty grim. Colorado is like a legend to Marine tankers. It was actually knocked out, they drove it back into the lagoon, put out the fire, and got it back servicable!!!............Stryker

Thats a great story about Colorado.Have seen many film clips of flame throwing Shermans on Iwo and it would be a cool addition to the Marine range,it was obviously a grim end for many Japenese soldiers but helped clear those foxholes and saved more US lives being lost, the Iwo cost was high enough.

Damian: The LVT-1 and 2 were NOT equipped with a ramp, thus the men would have to go "over the sides". By Iwo Jima, much better equipped and armored LVT's would be in service and the earlier models would have been relegated to strictly rear-echelon supply details. I have never seen an LVT-1, that late, but I have seen pictures of 2's on the different islands--not in assault waves.

By Tarawa, all front-line Marine outfits were issued the cammo gear, and the plain helmets were not suppossed to be worn, although there are lots of pictures of Marines with plain helmets, because the covers would tear from shells, coral, etc. The cammo utilities would change and evolve, but the basic pattern and colors were the same thru the rest of the war and even on into Korea. There were shortages and the common green utilitees could and would be worn till the end of hostilitees. The early cammo uniforms were, hot for so close to the equator. Different materials were tried on later issues, to try and remedy that situation. All of them were reversable--brown side and jungle green side--so were the helmet covers. Sometimes Marines would let out the backside of the helmet cover-to cover thier neck from the sun.

From what I have seen of the figures, they look like they would fit any island campaign except Guadalcanal. Those first Marine division men went in with the standard issue non cammo gear and bolt action springfield rifles--a point that I checked out on the new series and Spielberg got it right!!!! Hope this helps you and your quest----Semper Fi---------Stryker

Thanks Stryker.
I will try and mix and match them with my K and C Iwo Jima stuff.
Semper Fi to you as well.

Can you eleborate on this series...when it starts?...they say this Sunday (or was it last Sunday)?...is it available to view elsewhere (other than HBO)?

I would like to see a Tarawa series. Here is the Sherman "Colorado" putting out their fire then back into combat.

I think this was a smart move by Figarti to have these figures in time for The Pacific.

Any idea if/when there will be complementary 1:30 Japanese to go with the Marines? As I understand, the only 1:30 Japanese sets are those made specially for Hobby Bunker, right?

Here are the other three Sherman's on Tarawa that were knocked out.
