Pure Nostalgia (4 Viewers)

I've just obtained the elusive issue 1 of this OOP magazine, thus completing my collection (20 years in the waiting!). This series of magazine was the top draw then for figure modellers.

I got this oldie sometime ago but am only starting to read it. Nice hardcover book with great pics by the artist.

I just got this oldie. Not a must have but it was cheap. Nice thick book with 264 pgs, too. It is a collection of essays on the virtual lives of 14 soldiers throughout the ages. Edited by Martin Windrow and Frederick Wilkinson, and with nice drawings by Gerry Embleton.

Finally got these two booklets at a cheap price. Nice primer on the bandsmen of the cavalry and household division.

Hi All,

I’ve recently culled most of my modelling and Nat Geog magazines. What I do is to remove the pages that I want and throw the rest away. I find that this works for me in organizing the info that I want. The articles are either placed into labelled files or bound into thematic booklets. It really clears up the space (and mind) to buy more books..:). Drives the missus crazy. I’ll post more culled articles later.

I also took out this oldie for a specific reference to build a Royal Observer Corps (ROC) figure pushing a pram. Lovely illustrations by Malcolm McGregor.
I managed to get other web-based visual detailed reference on the telephone unit and will start a separate ROC thread on building the figure.

Excellent book. Although I no longer own a copy, it remains one of my favorites. -- Al

Yep, these oldies really have great illustrations, for a cheap price. Here's another Blandford by Haythornthwaite, that doyen of Napoleonic books. Features great illustrations by Mike Chappell.
I really like that Spanish hussar riding on a donkey, which I plan to model as a piece.

Yes, great book, especially showing the uniforms in 'campaign mode' as well as 'on parade' . Not many resources show this, and seeing the soldiers in sandals, or bare feet, with ripped, torn, patched and dirty clothing really shows what it was really like to be a soldiers in those days.
