QR-01 and etc (1 Viewer)

Greetings from Oregon. Being new to Toy Soldier Collecting as well as being a historian by training I have been reading all the prior threads about the JJ Designs. Anyway, what I found was a comment by Sage742 on 9/25/07 stating that he had seen the QR-01 set at Hobby Bunker. Sage742 also mentions that he thought the set would be a January release even though it didn't sho up on the JJ website. Regatds to all.

Ron,
Will see what I can find out. Have you given any further thought to coming to the Valley Forge Toy Soldier show in May, it's on the 4th and 5th of the month and is a good one.........

AHHHH Mannnnnn

Not the first weekend in May.

I am going to be in New Orleans for Jazz Fest. Bummer - I wanted to go that show.

I will probally spend less money in New Orleans than I would there :D

George - what the next show you are going to be at after that??

All,

Just to let you know the QR-01 has been removed from the March Through Time web site.

I spoke with Mark (w/TNTerrain) today and he gave me some insights on the QR mystery. It seems that these figures were created sometime ago and never put out in circulation as "a release" - they were displayed at the Shows - but, the quality of the overall work of the John Jenkins Design Figures improved greatly after this set was made.

JJ - decided that he would sell these figures through dealers and not on his website to just move them off the shelf. He does not really like them for some artistic reason - so he has not openly embraced them. The entire QR line is dead and there will be no more coming out.

JJ has turned his attention to the QB line and others instead. And as you have seen with the latest release - the product gets better and better.

So - If you have a QR-01 - you have a true collectors item. If you dont - go and find one. :D

Thats what I have learn - Ron

Ron,
How about this, you take my stock to Valley Forge and we split the profits 50-50 and I'll go to New Orleans instead with my girlfriend, sound like a plan?

I'll be at the Annandale show in June, Annapolis in July, Annandale again in September and OTSN in September just to name afew.............

Thanks Ron. It would be nice to know how many sets were made and/or released. The certificate says 250, but I assume there could be less in circulation?

Ron,

Some info at last.

As you say, it could be an issue with quality. When I spoke to John a couple of times ago, he did say he has trouble getting good artist to paint figures and made a comment last time I spoke to him about the QR-01 sets, to let him know what I thought of the figures.

I was waiting to see the figures in person (my set has not arrived yet). But, the photo I saw on the March Through Time web site the paint job on the faces especially of the figures looked I little different.

Anyone with a set got any comments on the quality of the paint job or the figures?

JAZZ FEST is where its at George !

I guess we will see each other in Annandale in June - I am waiting to buy my John Jenkins Indians from you - my Northern Supplier. So - Look at it this way you have a sale in the bag for VA before you even leave :D

Ron,

Anyone with a set got any comments on the quality of the paint job or the figures?

Aussie Monty :)

I would say they are very close in quality to the early BM and FM sets. I don't have any of the RR figures to compare them with which would be more apples to apples with the uniforms. The faces of a couple are dark around the eyes almost like they have applied camo.

I think the paint job on the QR-01 is a little less than perfect - especially compared to the other sets. I can understand why JJ is not that trilled with them.

But, as a collectors item - I am sure they will be great for everyone.

Ron-
What #'d set did you get?

Just to toss my two-cents into this, I got my set from Sierra and it's #14 of 250. Regards.

Combat

I got my QR-01 in the mail today.

My Set Number is 18 out of 250 - The paint job is a little less refined than the others - so in an Artistic view - I can see why John isnt promoting them.

But, its not that bad and its an interesting set. I feel its certainly worth the money and a true collectors item. :)

Ron

Ron--since you are on the East Coast and have #18 and I'm on the West Coast and have #14 it would appear that there wasn't must of a distribution on the QR-01. But you know what they say about assumptions:D
Steve

Anyone know any dealers with QR-01 for sale.

Sierra, March Through Time and Antique Center of Gettysburg are all out of stock.

They are going to get extra stock from John, so there must be a few more out there somewhere.

Steve

And I have #16.

Just out of interest, does anyone have a photo of this set?

Thanks

Jeff
