Like Aussie Monty, I too have had a couple of email conversations with John Jenkins and I am quite pleased that I contacted him.

He and I discussed a couple of things concerning this hobby and he assisted me in searching for some of the Frontline Rogers Ranger sets. I only need RR.01 and WI.01 to complete the series and man are those two hard to find. Not one dealer on the Frontline website list of dealers has them and I have contacted them all. Some do have some of the other sets, but they are very limited in supply.

But on to a more important issue, John informed me that 150 sets of QR.01 Quebec Rangers were produced on mainland China and that 135 survived the journey from there to him in Hong Kong. Of the 135, 30 were distributed to dealers at last years Chicago show. About 100 will be available from his dealers next month.

I ordered a set directly from John so that I can say, "this set came from the Man." I did the same with Andy regarding one of my earliest purchases of K&C. I like to be able to put something to a person it then makes that something more valuable to me personally.

Thanks for the info. That makes the QR-01 a nice collectible at 135 max. I found a set here in Gettysburg.

Ok I gotcha, wolfs rangers are really Rogers Rangers. I thought that Wolfs rangers were another unit of rangers.

Well, since you phrased you post that way, I am now not sure about weither they should be Rogers Rangers or not. Rogers Rangers did not participate in the battles around Quebec. So maybe someone with better knowledge could answer that question. Did Wolfe have Rangers at Quebec? I would think, think is not fact, that Rangers were used as scouts perhaps and they may not have been "Rogers" Rangers.

According to the Order of Battle on the web site www.britishbattles.com there were six companies of American Rangers at the Battle of Quebec. If I remember correctly there were other Ranger units other than the one commanded by Rogers.
By the way, for purely selfish reasons I wish that JJ would not release the additional 100 sets of QR-01.

In West's famous portrait of the death of General Wolfe, there is a ranger looking on. Not that it lends much historical accuracy to the scene since there are many symbolic aspects of the painting that are purely artistic fantasy.

I knew others could answer this question. I am satisfied that Rangers did participate.

Whew !

Man That Was Close......Another WS 100 in the making  ..........I am glad we settled this without doing it in another language ;)

Ranger units seem to have a wide variety of uniforms and some were far less formal than others. Most Lights and Rangers really didnt get 'respect' and official military uniforms until much much later- most uniforms were cut down/tailored versions of the french and british coats. In fact after the FIW the light companies were disbanded as they were considered to be only useful in wartime. So though they may not have gotten much 'press' I am certain that at least some soldiers there would be (considered) rangers.

I guess JJ liked them better once they started to sell. It would be nice if the certificates were updated - mine says that 250 sets were made and apparently only 135 will be released.

I received this email from John today. He must have seen some of the comments on this thread about accuracy and this is his comments to me regarding the accuracy of the Rangers at Quebec question. The phrase "not a problem" is his answer to a request I made of him earlier and does not apply to the question of accuracy:

Dear Michael
not a problem,

regarding the unit.
my OOB for the siege of Quebec shows there were 300 Rangers with Wolfe.
During the actual battle I seem to remember reading somewhere that they had
been deployed elsewhere to create a diversion from the main assault.
there are pictures of the uniform in most of the Osprey books
I have attached one from the "Empires Collide" book.

the illustrations were based on a letter from a Captain John Knox of the
43rdFoot in 1759. which describes the uniform in some detail.

best regards

john

He included a scan from the reference document but I am not able to download it to the forum. I will send it to Pete in the hope that he can.

Here it is:

All,

A couple of bits of information on the QR-01 sets.

1. The QR-01 sets are the first sets John did by himself after doing the RR and WI series for Frontline.

2. He will not be making anymore to replace the damaged/missing sets. So 135 sets will be it.

3. I have sets 19, 68, 77, 85. SIRSYDNEY has 14, COMBAT has 16 & CAPITOLRON has 18. Who else has any sets? Must be a few more out there.

Aussie Monty :)

All,

Has anyone picked up any QR-01 sets from dealers in the last week or so.

I hear that John shipped the last 100 sets out to dealers with the French sets.

What price are they selling them for.
