Query on World War One tunneling trivia and info (2 Viewers)

Victor, the moustaches wouldn't have got in the way, mouthpieces were just like snorkels. Actually, huge 'taches were grown by the Victorian Firemen, the theory was that the smoke would be filtered by them, (early health & safety?).

This is interesting. Early American fireman grew long beards for the same reason. The beards would be stuffed into the mouth on the same theory that they would help filter smoke. -- Al
 
Hehe, Oh yes! I was issued a 1970s moustache myself, never used it as breathing apparatus though.
