Only robbery if you allow yourself to be robbed. If it doesn't sell which I find a lot of overpriced stuff doesn't. then it's his loss. He maybe just testing the waters to see if any bites, like he doesn't want to sell it BUT if someone wants it for x amount then he is willing to sell.
From my perspective, it’s not the price you pay - as people have said, eBay’s virtue is that it’s a perfectly free market - but the condition you receive items in.
Sometimes the defects have been small or there is evidence of discolouration as a result of display when the opposite condition was stated or there are outright breakages put down to “the post”... all of which has made the whole exercise of buying off eBay a little unsavoury. For me at least, more than price, it comes down to knowing who you are dealing with.
