Mike:

I believe they came in boxes, however instead of a foam insert they were held in place via a "clam shell" style piece of plastic.

Best,
Jason

Beat me to it, Jason.

I have seen some BAR sets at the shows in boxes but a few also had a protective shell over the figure.
Never saw any other K&C figures packaged that way.

Larry,

Can't speak about the BAR sets, but I've seen the same boxes with protective shells over the figures in some older LAH series too.

Mike:

Happy to help and this is the exact figure I was thinking of.

I remember things via a strange timeline of who I was dating/living with at a particular time. I remember these because when I opened the box I was surprised to see the clam shell. I showed it to Kathy who was my girlfriend at the time. Instead of her commenting on the lack of foam etc., she asked why the figure had Burberry pajamas on.

Jason...
yea...
I see how you mark time in your toy soldier collecting life...
what girl you were with when you bought an item...hahaha...

Once I knew what I was looking for...
I actually found the original boxes for most of them...1-12...
and they still have the plastic coated metal twistees in the empty box to secure the figure through the pre-drilled holes on the backing...

I have a friend who sells a lot of Del Prado...
and he says these twistees do more damage than good...
at least on the Del Prados...

he's of the opinion that they wear on the paint...
eventually damaging it...
maybe that's why this style of packing was short lived with K&C...
always trying to get better...

I'm listing them on Ebay and will probably discard the twistees and pack some tissue around them...
