I need to make a few "poles" for Britain's standard bearers, and would like to get the size exactly right, please let me have the correct length. I need one for a Guards officer, & one for a Royal Marine, but assume they are identical. Thanks in anticipation.

This may help your estimate of the size of the pole. It's of a Britains Special RM Colour Party set 1938, made for Hamley's shop in London. jb

Thanks JB, very nice models, I like the way the Standard hangs. I think I have decided on 60mm, plus a small finial made from the end of a Biro. I will post pics as soon as I have the time to finish the models.

I downloaded that picture - as they were a Britains set. My own version, in my collection are by Asset - which I bought as castings. You can see that their poles are slightly higher - and theColour Bearers aren't holding onto the flags. I made them up like this so that I could see the face of the figures better - and to display the Standard details on the flatter flag which was supplied.

My point in showing these is - that you can choose what you want to do with Toy Soldiers - rather than always be strictured by reality. However, I would go along with what Britains did - if that's what you have - as they would then look "right". BUT - it is ALWAYS up to you to choose.:D

PS. Don't forget to show us how you get on with them - it's nice to see what others produce.:D jb

Very nice, I like the 41 Commando Standard. I will settle for 60mm poles, with paper flags. My only decision now, is what to use for the pouches, (The one on the Guardsman in my pic is paper) I am thinking felt or strips of lead, any ideas anyone?

A small piece of Milliput and a dab of superglue. jb

The colours are 1142 mm x 9150 mm exclusive of the 2" fringe (3' 9" x 3'.0) divide by 1/32nd scale = 46 mm x 28.5 + .15 mm fringe. Pike including the Royal crest is 2628 mm (8' 7 1/2") in 1/32 that is 82 mm.
Royal Marines don't have a fringe.

Martin that is very helpful, thank you. I have got the flags printed, and they are within a mm or so what you said. I just need the time to do the deed now! ;)

I also got round to doing my Rommel figure, this is the before:-

And after:-

I like Glossy as you may have guessed. The face was too pale for "The desert Fox", also the fingers were too big, but they are less noticeable now.
(The Rommel figure isn't Britains, it is Blue Box, and was Matt).
