I have been unable to locate any information on the CS King Tiger-Porsche #323 (#CS00457W) which has no zimmerit.

Does anyone have any unit or combat history on #323?

(I have a Dragon 1/35 King Tiger-Porsche #323, but it has zimmerit while CS00457W does not have zimmerit.)

I am not an expert on this subject but I recall a discussion on this forum about zimmerit on the Porsche Tigers. All of the Porsche Tigers had zimmerit except two or three that were at test centers or training centers. I think all the ones issued to combat units had zimmerit. I'm sure one of the forum Tiger experts will answer this for sure. -- Al

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, King Tiger #323 (no zimmerit) isn't specifically mentioned. The only clue as to the unit's identity is the Tiger's head logo on the turret.

It can be infered from this section

July 1944
3./s.H.Pz.Abt.503 (3rd company 503rd Heavy Tank Battalion (Army)) - 12 (Porsche-Turm), 2 (Serien-Turm). These all had zimmerit. Two of the Tiger IIs (Porsche-Turm) were left behind when the unit deployed to the front due to technical problems.

323 would have been 3rd Company, 2nd Platoon, 3rd tank. The turret and unit are accurate. I suspect the lack of zimmerit is not.

Are you looking for a specific history for Tiger 323?

FRANK,

Thanks. Looking through all the info you posted, I think I got my question answered. I appreciate all your help.

I don't think it was him. The Porsche turret King Tigers went to only two Heer Schwere units. The 1st and 3rd Kompanies of Schwere Pz. Abt. 503 were each equipped with 12 Porsche Turret King Tigers. S.Pz.Abt. 503 fought in Normandy and eventually in Budapest in 1945. 323 was one of only 2 of their original King Tigers to make it all the way. I don't know who the commander was, but over such a long period, there may have been more than one commander.

SS Unterscharfuhrer Otto Blase was in schwere SS- Pz.Abt. 501, an SS unit equipped with Henschel turret King Tigers in tank 332 (not 323).

Terry..

You are right. I have variants mixed I presumed this was the thread about Henschel design Konigstigers. I will have a look at who commanded the Porsche versions

Coming to think of it is this not the confusion that occurred due to CS wrongly marking the Konigstigers when addressing the Porsche variants?

No - they are correctly marked as Porsche turret King Tigers from S.Pz.Abt. 503.

seem to remember some discussion about the tanks and the detail and markings from when they were released. I will have a look as I am sure there was some issue with them and their accuracy especially, with variants with Zimm and markings. Its been a long while since I actually looked at the original Konigstigers from CS to see what the issues were but, I know there were some. I am sure we had some discussions about eight variants and their actual existence.

Anyway, back to the question I have been reading about Hans Fendersack and Konrad Weisant who could have been at least in the tank if not in charge. Their ranks were compatible with being commander as say gunner etc. Will have a dig
