I never noticed that before - the sets are prior to what I want in detail and quality of what I want to collect - and they would be expensive to chase down.

RA005 is from the Stalingrad series and is called SU 85 Self Propelled Gun with Commander and was issued at $79. That is the first photo that Wayne put up.

Wayne's second photo is of WS036 and is called 2 Tank Fighters plus a SU 85 Russian Self Propelled Gun. There is no commander figure. And it does look like the sculpts of 2 of the figures were re-used with different paint jobs as part of WS049. And the SU-85 could have been a re-issue.

However, I believe you got those photos from Bill Sager's site and I wonder if they are correct?

Does anyone have either of these sets and can comment?

Terry

They German figures are the same sculpts issued as two different sets. The first set was issued as a German tank-hunter team with the SU-85 without a Russian commander. The second figure issue was as part of the 4 figure set. They are the same two panzerfaust soldiers, different paint jobs. The SU-85 is the same vehicle, issued twice. Once as part of the German tank-hunter set, once with the Russian crew. The photos are correct. -- lancer

Al is correct; I have both sets. The principal difference is that the WS 36 figures are larger and have a different camo than the WS 49 figures; my preference is for the former.

Early K/C Russian Tanks very primative in style.....What year were these released?

Thanks for the info , I recently won on ebay but not yet received the SU 85 Self Propelled Gun .There are no figures with it so it could be RA005 or WS36 :D Am I right in thinking that along with the RA004 T34 tank, the RA013 T34/85 Tank Set and the RA014 Katyusha Rocket Launcher that would be all the K&C red army hardware :)

I can't think of any othr Russian AFVs except for a T-34 captured by the Germans in the WS series.

Well, not originally, off ebay. I got in the days when it was possible to be a completist. My recollection is that WS 36 wasn't too expensive and the RA was a bit more, although less than it probably is now.

Here's my early K&C T34/76 - RA4 with 2 figure set. It is very crude as you can see, but oozes character. The turret and hull are quite different greens. I purchased mine in '99 from K&C UK, the year of release, I think. IMO the later 85 model was very good but you can't beat these early vehicles. The Russian figures are very chunky, like the sets RA1-3 and quite unlike the opposing winter Germans. The faces remind me of comic book / Tintin faces.......
