I received unfortunate news tonight from Barry C. regarding Alan. Alan passed away yesterday, the hobby has lost a great dealer and friend. I have dealt with Alan off and on over many shows and years, but it wasn't til recently that I got to know him through Barry. Alan was a great dealer, fair, honest and would work with you and your wallet! He was a pleasure to talk to on the phone as well as vist with at shows. Alan recently handled a large Trophy collection and that is how we got to know one another better. He will be sorely missed at shows and in the hobby. Just one of the good guys.

I knew Alan from the shows I used to attend and I knew he was gravely ill. At last year's Chicago Show, I spent some time talking to him and his wife about Trophy, life in general and a bunch of other things. A real sweetheart and class act but above all else a gentleman. I was looking forward to chatting with him at Valley Forge. That, unfortunately, will not happen. My condolences to his wife, family and friends.

What a terrible and shocking loss. Alan was a great man full of life. We chat with him frequently over the phone: he asked me a lot of questions about Trophy collection he was selling. Hobby will not be the same without him....

I also knew Alan through the shows, and am very sad to hear of his passing. My sincere condolences to his loved ones.

Alan Gwin

As Tom posted early this AM Alan Gwin passed away on Thursday , March 27th , 2014. He was 76 years years old. He had a brief illness. I spoke with Judy his lovely wife today and she is doing very well. I was in Alan's house one week ago. He looked and sounded weak but he and I along with his wife and sister spent a good amount of time together. I think Alan knew his time was short. We laughed a little and I asked him a bunch a questions of soldiers and he was upbeat.

I will not attempt to eulogize him here, I know something is planned for TSMF soon.

Judy asked to let let fellow collectors and friends know a Memorial Service is planned for Saturday April 5th at 11:00am. It will be held at:

Ocklawaha Bridge Baptist Church
14100 East Highway 40
Silver Springs, FL 34488

If any would like his home address , please PM me and I will get you his address for any correspondence with his family.

RIP to a good friend and fellow collector.

To all I posted some additional information about Alan on a separate Thread for all.

Best, Greg

I always talked with Alan at Chicago. He was a very fair dealer. I left a artillery set I bought from him in his room and he went down the halls to find me and give me the set. My condolences to his wife and family. John:(
