Hi Guys,

Don't you just love the RAF?

Great stuff!

I guess I was lucky enough to read this before work this morning so I actually got to read the whole post which I thought was very good. I thought it was funny and also right to the point. The RAF saying don't mess with us. I don't understand why it was deleted or altered.

We had received complaints about the "joke" We do a have Argentinian members on the forum and also have to be mindful of them.

Do we have any Falkland Islanders as members???? I'll bet they weren't laughing when they were invaded by armed soldiers.

But the Falkland Islands were not always British. They were invaded by white British troops in the 18th century. So how far back do you want to go? We need to respect history, and not what just appears on our 21st century news channels.

Yes, the posting was a little bit tasteless, given that the Falkland Islands are still disputed.

But the RAF will always have the highest respect.

Invading unoccupied islands! white British troops! that may possibly apply to Australia but the Falklands...no. The post was deleted because of over the top political correctness.

I am with johnnybach on this one -- his link to the website setting out the Falkland Islanders views/wishes is well worth the read.

Lets not bring this thread down please.

What I find regrettable about the deleted text is that some people will assume that KC/Andy's comments were either rude or profane (or both). IMO, they were neither. I took the meaning and spirit of the words to be those that we'd associate with a Combatant itching for a scrap. The nationality of the opponent struck me as largely irrelavent. It could have been any country that RAF pilots have battled over the last century. Quite literally, all Andy had to do to make it so was to change a word and the image of an aircraft. To my mind, the reactions to Andy's comments are considerably more problematic than any offense that was unwittingly thrust on the offended.

The Argentine Air Force did very well against the Royal navy, sinking HMS Sheffield, Coventry, Antrim, they played havoc with the landing of the Welsh Guards, but one on one with the Royal Air Force totally useless.
Maybe King and Country could do a few releases of the Falklands War.
My Father was a Squadron Leader, Royal Air Force, flying Spitfires, he never had time for over the top Political Correctness.

I totally agree about political correctness gone mad. When I read Andy's original post I thought it was hilarious and what's more, his words were from an actual event. Never in a million years did I think his post would get changed just because someone thought it was inappropriate which I think most forum members would disagree. This is another case of the minority winning over the majority, pretty well much reflecting what's happening in the world on all levels today.

I think people should lighten up and not take things seriously. Without Andy's original post, I think this thread is now pointless. His words were the guts of the thread and now it's just a picture of a Tornado plane!

Hi Guys,

While having no wish to further upset the sensitivities of our Argentinian friends and fellow collectors ... or indeed anyone else ... it is worth remembering the following ...

Argentina and its citizens owe a huge debt of gratitude to Her Majesty’s Armed Forces at the time of the Falklands War.

Thanks to their bravery, boldness and professional skill-at-arms a remarkable victory was won on those small, windswept islands in the South Atlantic.

This British victory directly brought about the downfall of one of the most brutal and corrupt military dictatorships in South America’s long and sometimes bloody history.

For that alone Argentina and its people have much to be thankful for ... As for the disputed Islands themselves and their inhabitants... They have consistently voted (99.8%) to remain British ... and proud of it!

Just a few additional thoughts, best wishes to one and all,
Andy (formerly 207246 Mne.Neilson A.C.)
