Ramsbury was known as "USAAF Station-469" for security reasons. From November 1943 up to January 1944 the airfield was used by the air echelons of the 434th and 435th US Troop Carrier Groups with C-47s and C-53s. Both groups conducted jumping exercises with the 101st Airborne Division.
On D-day the worst drop was done by the 85th Troop Carrier Squadron who were called upon to provide extra transport planes and operating out of Ramsbury.The 377th PFAB ( parachute Field Artillery Battalion)on board the 85th TCS were dropped about 18KM to the North of their original dropzone (DZA)
The dio itself:
All paras changed from 82nd into 101st division. The AA patches changed into eagle patches and all US flags were overpainted and the embossed flags were replaced by an extra sleeve pocket. Jackets and trousers were repainted in a more correct colour; The "Follow me" Jeep was wheathered and the MP's uniform painted in a better olive drap colour tone .
The control tower was built with more than 1200 separate building blocks, all of them painted individually. The inside of the control tower is fully detailed with telephones and other apparatus and manned with an observer. ( photo's to follow). The outside of the tower is decorated with a "How to Identify warplanes" poster, etc .. etc ....
Hope you enjoy ( more pics to follow)

Outstanding Guy, a masterpiece..................:salute::
Wayne.

I see 'awesome', 'masterpiece' and 'brilliant' have been taken so all I am left with is 'excellent'.

Tremendous work on the control tower Guy. Really love the detail and overall appearance. Would love to see the inside details so will be watching for your future photos. Figures look great as well. I know this was quite an undertaking and must have taken a lot of patience to complete. Congratulations on a job well done. {bravo}}

Guy, Killer job on that control tower. Nicely done being used in your scenes............. :salute:: :salute:: :salute::

Guy, If ever you want a money making project, my B-17 airfield would love one of those control towers! :rolleyes:

Wow Guy!

I promised some pictures from the Control Tower's interior.
With my personal camera this is the best I can do . But you will notice that there is an observer inside the tower surrounded with several radio sets and other apparatus ( also a map on the wall)sory for the poor quality of the pics

Hello Guy, that is About as good as it gets, the small detail in your buildings/terrain are outstanding!!!!! the painting is spot on and the way you have displayed all the different soldiers works perfectly together to create a story right out of WWII for anyone of any age/gender to enjoy, thanks for the all the work you put into this project and sharing it here on the forum...Sammy

Sammy, and everybody else who took the time to write some comments , Thank you all . Also Thanks for the many "Likes"
I already started my next ones; First a small vignette for TG and then an Ardennes scene with K&C ( I am also working on a French shopping street in a liberated city)
